My truck cranks up fine, idles fine, everything seems fine, but at about 2200 or more RPM's it starts bogging down. Idk whats wrong, we checked spark plugs, vacuum hoses and changed the fuel filter, but nothing has worked. Any advice?

Yeah I'm thinking its the cat. At idle you can almost get the truck to cut off if you rev it up enough, and have to pull most hills in first gear just to get up them.

I would say its the Cat if I had to put money on it. I've seen it happen on a few different vehicles and it sounds exactly like those instances.

easy way to see if you cats are jacked is too see (hear) any loose pieces inside the cat. If you bang the cat with a mallet and you hear a bunch of junk rattling around then its bad. Also, if you hold your hand a few inches behind the exhaust outlet when the truck is at operating temp, and its becomes too hot within a few seconds; good indication your cat is bad.

    And a CEL :p

If you dont have the cash to replace the cat right now, you can always gut out the cat and put it back in till you can afford a new cat.

Magnaflow sells cats for about $150. My Cat Co. Cat cost me $95 installed at the local muffler shop.

If the CEL bothers you, URD sells an O2 sim that tricks the #2 O2 sensor into thinking all is well upstream, and eliminates the CEL.

I think the back pressure is more important to the 3.4L, but nevertheless important to any of the 1st gen motors (2rz, 3rz, 5vz)
