Met with dealership on friday and they said they could get me a 2020 Cement TRD Sport w/ Tech package from another dealership.. they wanted around 42k... I got them down to $38039 OTD. The next day I sold my vehicle to Carvana (awesome experience) and then the dealer calls back and says the other dealer will not trade. I've called my 2 local dealers and around 10 others in my 3 neighboring states.. They either on have 4cyl access cabs or they ridiculous money. Some are wanting 41k for an SR5 before taxes.. Most dealers only have a few Tacoma on the period.

The ones with TRD models are not budging off MSRP. I mean like 44k otd for a standard TRD OR.

My local dealer called me back today and says he has found 2 2020 TRD OR models. a silver 2wd w/locker and drop step bars, cargo lights, etc for 39K otd.. and a magnetic gray 4wd w/tech package for 42k otd.

Im going for the silver just because I like the color better and I dont off road and I feel a locker will get me out of most anything I would put the truck in (occassional fire road to get to hiking trail head). I just cant bring myself to pay over 40k for a Tacoma. I love them and Ive had a 2015 TRD OR w/ locker and on 07 SR5 and never got stuck in either of those.. but 40+k is just too close to Tundra V8 money.

Now waiting to see if the other dealership will trade it to my dealership.. if this one falls through, I'm either buying an F150 or will just wait for a 21... I cant handle anymore dealerships and salemen right now.

    Sorry, Rant Over.

also, check with you auto insurance. a lot of times they have tools to find vehicles for the purpose of replacing a totaled vehicle. they normally can find the best prices around , and aren't limited to those who wrecked their vehicles.

If you have a reliable vehicle, it would be best to wait, the market is nuts right now, don't even punish yourself.

I have people on the street offer to buy my '99 Taco about once a month, and it's nothing special, just a regular old SR5 TRD. I can see why when getting into a new one is $40k+ ... pure insanity.

It is pretty nuts. I paid $32k for my TRD OR DCSB manual trans , 2017.

I don't think I'd ever pay more than $36 for a midsize truck.

I'd love to move from the midsize to the full size (more room for the kiddos in back)... but as much as I'd love a Tundra, I can't stomach the 18mpg... especially when the new Silverado's are making 33 mpg on the highway. C'mon, Toyota! Put some money into Tundra development.

I wouldn't pay $39K for a 2 wheel drive . I would expand my search area , buy used ir wait . I know it's hard now and your dealer sucks , good luck .

Sorry for your unfortunate timing, but this is an absolute terrible time to buy a Tacoma. If at all possible, hold off till dealer stock is replenished. Then you will get a better price and exactly what you want.

Couldn't you buy from that dealership and just pay to have them ship it over to where you live?

I am with you, I hate ALL car salesman's and dealers in general. I know they have a job to do but I couldn’t in good conscience have a job where you have to lie and cheat people to make a sale. Stand firm and if they don’t play, move on. You eventually find a descent dealer who just doesn’t lie and cheat as much lol. Best of luck OP.

Yeah, Unfortunately, I have already sold my car to Carvana. My dealer told me the truck was coming in on this past saturday, So I had Carvana buy my Forester this past Saturday, so I could use that money towards the purchase of the Tacoma. Then after the Forester was sold the dealer calls and says he cant get the truck.

Now, this morning he found me another 2 trucks that are also on other dealers lots, so I'm waiting to hear if the other dealers will trade or not. My salesman just texted me and said they are still waiting to hear back from the other dealership on if they will accept a trade... I dont think its looking good. If the silver TRD OR doesnt work out my only option is buy a F150, spend 42k on a magnetic Gray TRD OR 4x4 w/tech package, or borrow a car from family to drive until the 21's come in.

I would really like a V8 full size for the cabin space and power but I hate not being able to park in my garage. I also hate washing a vehicle and parking in the garage keeps my truck clean, no potential for vandalism, and no freezing cold winter mornings or burning up hot summer days.

This is the wildest I have ever seen Tacoma/ Vehicle pricing ever... My local dealer only has 2 - 2020 Tacomas on the lot a TRD sport premium, w/ the cool LED headlights for 43k msrp they will sell for 42k before taxe, etc.. and a TRD OR 4x4 for 46.5k msrp they will sell for 45k before taxes. etc.. They are the only dealer in my state who is even coming off the MSRP!! Ive had other dealers literally tell me " we know we are sitting on gold, and wont take less than MSRP"... Who TF pays MSRP??? I mean i get Tacomas are hard to get because the plant shit down in Spring but you would think that means the dealers are hurting and would in turn make deals... All my dealerships around here are damn near empty with inventory, they all look like they are going out of business.

Last resort is to suck it up and but a tundra off Carvana, I could get a 2018-2019 nice Tundra w/ less than 25k miles for 42k... I just hate the whole mpg's which I hear fromn real world owners is closer to 13mpg, after adding A/T tires.

I tracked down that dealer ship. Its in another state only 3 hours away. I reached out to the and told them to give me the best OTD price. Their price was 42k otd.. that same truck my dealer was going to sell me for 38k, and that included having to pay a driver to go get it. I countered and said I would pay 38.5K and they straight said NO. They will not budge on the price at all.

I bought my 19 TRD OR for 36 OTD. I ended up getting it through a CARFAX inquiry. I had some dealers throw BS at me and one, Valley Hi Toyota in So Cal threw me a couple of good deals to choose from with the package and color choices I wanted. I was skeptical, but they turned out to be legit, and I had a really great buying experience. A couple of other dealers threw me some good possibilities but they were just a little too late. There are 8 or so big Toyota dealers within 50 miles of where I live so there are cars to choose from.

You might try a buying service like I used or Costco, credit union, etc. and see if you can find what you want. If you really can't find what you want, consider an out of state buy.

Thanks Brother! Yeah, Ive had numerous problems with this dealership. They just happen to be the only 1 in my city and are actually located less than a mile from my house. My other Toyota dealer is in the next city 35 miles away and they are bigger crooks. they have a voodoo blue sr5 with a/t tires and black wheels they have listed for 45-46k... and they are real shady crooks. After that its hours away to the next Toyota dealer.

If this doesnt work, then it wasnt meant to be... and I'll either hold out for a 21 or buy a full size..
