So I am hearing that the 2018 Tacoma will have Adaptive Cruise Control. Many people already hate the way the truck downshifts to 4th on the slightest hill or in the slightest breeze. Do you really want ACC on a 2018 Third Gen?

Imagine how often it'll be downshifting to 4th gear or even third when it's trying to get back up to speed. Have you ever held the cruise control stalk up to accelerate? It downshifts like crazy and revs to the moon

Maybe they will write a new Transmission TSB update so that might help us.

Also, Lane Departure Warning and Steering Assist? Will it drive for me, now? That's pretty cool

This thread was really made to justify my prior purchase of a 2016 Tacoma by down playing the potential technology in the 2018. If the 2018 Tacoma comes with ACC, then my 2016 will be behind in technology and will not be current anymore. DOWN WITH ACC!!

I'm hoping there will be new trans tuning that us 16 and 17 owners will benefit from.

I bought an SR, so I'm thrilled just to have cruise control. :D

I was tempted to wait for the '18, but was afraid that the price would go up, and they wouldn't deal on them they way they did when I bought my '17.

I don't know, but I'd love to have that stuff in my next truck. I love the blind-spot monitoring in our Mazda3; I wish I had it in the Tacoma. And admittedly I thought rearview cameras were gimmicks when I first saw them, but now I'd never want a vehicle without one.

Every time new tech comes half the people are against it. I'm sure there were similar haters when they added FM to the radios and replaced carbs with fuel injection.

But to each their own. Cheers.

ACC is awesome in my wife's Highlander. Especially on long trips. It's probably the only "safety sense" feature I wouldn't mind having on my Tacoma. I have a manual though.

I like all of the ACC, bumper sensors and safety related stuff on my current car, except for the hard braking out of nowhere (e.g. plastic bag blows in front of the car and it slams on the brakes). I hate that. ACC is an awesome feature though.

You guys aren't thinking about it paired to the 3.5 V6 and the 6 speed auto transmission

Hell, I have a stick, so my 2016 is still behind the 2016s in technology...

...and that's just the way I like it!

Blind spot monitoring/lane departure warning are great for some people. I prefer to just pay attention while I drive. ACC is something I'd never voluntarily get in another vehicle. My wife's subaru has it and it is a royal pain in the ass and requires constant babysitting otherwise you end up having the car slam on the brakes for you when you're a full 4 car lengths from a vehicle in front. The only way I've gotten it to be serviceable is to set the 'range' it watches for a car to the minimum, which is ~= 2 car lengths. That lets me get close enough to pass without having the electronics stop me way too early.

Wife's subaru has acc and lane departure warnings and blind spot tech. It's amazing to drive. The only issue is the default distance is like 150ft so if you don't lessen it cars just continually fill the gap and you fall further and further back.
Oh and I too though back up cameras were a gimmick until I got a tacoma

Wife's genesis has adaptive cruise, full stop/start. It's badass, who cares what the transmission is doing. Besides, OVTune.

It'll probably just as poorly designed as the rest of the truck.

I don't use CC in the truck now, wouldn't care if it becomes ACC later.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
That is a good thought -- I had not imagined! We have the ACC on our 15 Subaru OB and love it -- lets hope maybe this is why it's taking longer to get the 18's out -- they need to modify the shift patterns to smooth it out, and this will trickle down to the 16' and 17's

Are you blind to the complaints on here about the cruise control and shifting patterns?

On the Subaru ACC --this WOULD NOT happen --that is unless the plastic bag is at least 4 foot across.

No...I'm just not a fan of complaining. My wife's a complainer and I'm a fixer. In this case, the fix is buying a tune, which I've done.

Never use CC on my turd gen it's terrible imo. I don't use it for long road trips though so it's not as an important feature to me like many others here. Wife's Subaru it's much more amazing and comfortable to take on roadtrips eyesight is the most amazing feature ever.
