Not true -- it is a drivers aid --it is not meant to replace the driver paying attention to what the hell is going on. That's what the DEAD tesla Test Driver thought as he was watching a movie while his Tesla was cruising down the road when that same Tesla broadsided a semi and ended his life. If anyone here says they have never had a lapse of attention while driving (no matter what age you are --THEy are lying through their teeth. It is for these momentary lapses of attention that these systems are designed for. Now we all know that all of the Manufacturers are working towards "driverless cars" --but they are a ways down the road. There are tons of hurdles to overcome before this will be reality.

Crawl control seems and -looks a lot like the X-mode on our Subaru OB -- just a little more sophisticated for specialized off road conditions with the tacoma. The Subaru X-mode is fantastic in poor traction conditions -- I have no real world experience with the Crawl control.

You really think a company with the technology of Toyota would put a vehicle out without having this issue taken care of!!!??? Really?

I don't know why anyone still wants an sti at this point. Same engine in use since 2008 which is not that different from what was being used in 2004. It's OLD and inefficient.. and the fuel system is STILL poorly designed leading to ringland failures. I moved away from these after owning 8 Subarus because they just stopped trying to innovate on the platform

People can make similar arguments against toyota. I am actually at a lot right now looking at t4rs and tundras. Outdated, feels cheap, low mileage, anything "efficient" they sell looks hideous. Quality has slipped a lot. This aint what the thread is about though. To each their own. Ill likely pick one up next month, keep it a few years, trade up when they do the redesign to the 2.0 they are currently using in japan.

Thats one of the reasons automakers are phasing out manual transmissions.

I use CC all the time on my manual second gen. If I hit a grade that is too steep to hold speed in the current gear, it just drops out of cruise. I expect the same will happen with the ACC. If it is forced to slow you down more than the current gear will handle, it will drop out of cruise.
I really hope they get this right with the AT, since that is the only option on the truck I want. I use cruise a lot (and wish more people did, so I wouldn't have to dodge you on the freeway). I'm looking forward to taking one for a test drive.

My '16 Challenger SRT has ACC, and an 8 speed automatic. ACC works wonderfully, I love it and use it all the time. Kind of wishing I'd waited for an '18 Tacoma, but it's a truck and I don't really expect it to have all the amenities of a car.

On the whole subject of bitching about the 3rd Gen Tacoma automatic, I dunno, it doesn't bother me a bit. I mean, an automatic that shifts when conditions change? What a concept! The engine doesn't have the power of a big V8 or something supercharged or turbocharged, it's a naturally aspirated V6 in a fairly heavy vehicle, so it's going to shift some, right?

I love the ACC in the truck.. They definitely fixed the downshifting issues*. I have had some issues with ghost breaking, maybe 2-3 times in 22k miles so far.

*while the cruise control is active

I’ve never experienced any of those issues. Although I don’t use it that often, CC works flawlessly. Keeps the distance to where I set it and slows down when cars cut in front. Same with lane departure—although I admit it’s pretty annoying.
