The immigration/anti-illegal type threads are getting out of hand on here, and we've had several complaints about them via reported posts and in private, through PMs. They turn ugly too often, like general political threads do, and worst of all they taint the feel of the site. They will be closed from now on.

It's kind of sad to see that people in this community can't be civil. Intelectual discussion about hot buttom topics should be encouraged, not banished. That being said, is there anyway to ban the people starting the trouble while letting the intelectuals have an informed conversation?

it's not just the discussions themselves which are the issue, but the theme of those threads in general tend to cause unneeded tension and hostility on the site. some members even feel unwelcomed on here when they see thread after thread attacking certain groups of people.

Good call from the boss and mods, I think that the opportunity of discussing such topics was given to us, and was not handled very well by some of the members, if its causing trouble why keep them up, it was ok one thread every now and then, i usually would chime in and make my point and leave, but it seemed lately like it was the only discussion around here, and some members took the passion for the topic way to far....

If we learn to respect each other and try to learn a bit of other peoples backgrounds and cultures, maybe only then we could have a fully civilized discussion about such topics.

    Thats just my .02

I joined because of the trucks and the awesome technical knowledge that so many members have and share. The more I participated, the more I began to appreciate the completely ridiculous senses of humor, wittiness, and fun–dare I say shenanigans–that that so many members exhibit, much like an alpha baboon's magenta buttocks. And I appreciate the sense of community that comes from folks trying to help other folks figure out some tough life issues and looking for support, perspective, and wisdom.

I will not miss an endless parade of headlines on divisive political and social issues. The news and media are full of them, and many other sites are dedicated to their discussion. I come here to escape that, not to be constantly reminded of it.

Thanks for making an effort to focus on this site's very best qualities and core values.
