The topic is NOT the problem. It's the manner that people are addressing each other. If the debate was chocolate versus vanilla and people were insulting each other/posting up about it constantly- That topic would probably get banned too.

None of these "hot button" issues has a RIGHT or WRONG answer. If there was a CLEAR right answer-I doubt anyone would ignore it...political motives or not. (2+2 ALWAYS = 4...There is no single answer to immigration or abortion or racism or any other issue like that). As such it becomes a circular conversation, and devolves into an argument about who is stupider or whatever.

And don't think that folks who push the hot button issues and get into arguments don't get noticed/talked to...It just saves everyone a lot of grief to not even broach the topic.

PS- Let's not kid ourselves....There were at least 20 threads that were somehow related to immigration in recent history. The majority of them locked due to the downhill slide of the topic. It wasn't ONE thread that did this...it was a pattern.

Yeah you're right, the topic isn't the problem... That being said, the healthy discussion should continue but have the insulting comments deleted. The more the discussion is continued, there are many more viewpoints being presented. I agree if insulting gets out of hand, then the thread should be locked or deleted, but being anti-illegal shouldn't be looked-down upon at TW.

I like discussion on hot topics as long as we can keep it civil, and if we can't, we can take action against the troublemakers, not the topic itself. :)

I'd swing thru a Drive Thru, but they'd spit in my food...then I'd have to go Farva on their ass.
