Makes me wonder about all those complaints with the A/T and engine performance concerns

I experienced no discernible difference. It just feels like the ECU reset but it's already back to driving like shit.

Yep - I was having all sorts of issues before the official recall part was released and I replaced w/ the "89" sensor and it drove like an absolute dream for about ~4k miles. So well, I drove almost entirely in "D" without thinking about the transmission or power delivery at all - like you should in most A/Ts. Eventually it started bogging again and was getting more and more sluggish and I could also see the tachometer fluctuating ever-so-slightly but I could be sitting idle w/o A/C on and would watch the needle float 100rpms or so in either direction which made me think of the possible static charge that's cited.

I replaced w/ the "98" sensor, reset ECU, and didn't really notice any changes - still sluggish and bogging. But after about 300 miles of driving w/ the new sensor it is again driving like it should from a power delivery / shifting perspective. Will see how long this lasts, but if it ran every day like it did this morning my days of complaining about this truck would be over. Happy thoughts - it will not start sucking for the 20th time, it will not start sucking, it will drive like it does today forever. ha!

Have a CPS, # ending in 98, coming in this week. Similar to @bshammer0 , my truck was manufactured in the fall of 2016 (10/16) and was not included in the recall. Really hoping this helps.

I know the happy feeling you're talking about, lucky for me, it drives like that everyday yippy!

And I say lucky, because I did some lite service manual reading on this subject a few weeks ago in this area, while skimming for other subjects and the things that the ecm adjust for in regards to wear or momentary misalignment of components like timing chain/gears, cps and such is scary!
The timing chain has auto alignment via oil filled lifter type components if I remember right and just think if some type of small hiccup is going on that can be a nightmare to diagnose & fix, scary chit!

But for most of us it works awesome when all is right and I really don't miss a V-8 or turbo.
Let's hope that yours is fine now that the CPS is right, and it's just adjusting to everything that was going wrong on there before.

    Cheers!

I had the AT update done a couple of months ago and the shifting is so much better and it's not surging like it used to. Then I was pulling my boat the other day and it felt like the boat was lugging the truck. It was an on and off lugging though. It felt like I was on a section of small whoops or something. However, I noticed it driving back and forth to work afterwards. I'm wondering if it could be this CPS?

They probably won't be able to duplicate and verify the issue, so you may have to proceed at your own expense as other have had to, me included.

You should still take it in and get it documented and maybe file a NHTSA complaint so they can cover more vehicles as the current recall is not adequate imo

    Good luck
    Cheers!

I've gone the preventive route as well, swapping out a "89" with a "98". I did a "reset" too, and the first thing I noticed (besides a seemingly more stable idle) was the excessive numb feeling was back. I'm hoping this is just due to the truck going through the learning phase again.

FWIW, just swapped the sensors in my truck and I did have the old "hash mark" sensor. Build date - 10/16, not included in current recall.

Just drove around town a little bit. Initial impressions: truck idles about 400 - 500 rpm lower than it did prior to sensor swap; throttle response seems to have improved (though it's still not good); acceleration is definitely better; still getting mild stuttering occasionally when light on the throttle

What kind of fuel are you running? The stuttering seems to be less pronounced for me if I'm running mid or premium. As soon as I put regular 87 in it, the stuttering under light throttle returns and doesn't go away. just my experience.

Could be ... I use 87. Is it safe to run premo in an engine designed for regular?

Have been thru a lot with 2016 TRD OR on this subject. Finally have it fixed but the new recall uses a different part no. Mine qualified for an OKLA lemon and corporate gave me lots of perks to keep it. Going in next week to get the new one. Every time the CPS failed it would burn up the Cat converters.

Yes - it should (after a tank or two) slowly advance the timing to compensate for the resistance to detonation the higher octane has. According to one of the tuners / vendors on here who has been investigating the computer, he seems to think the fuel maps / programming are really aggressive and not really optimized to run 87. Lots of people run 87 all day and don't report any problems though so who knows. My experience has been a smoother drive on higher octane - though for me as of now mid grade seems to be the smoothest. You won't hurt anything if you try it out though....

How many times did you have the sensor replaced!?

Got my CPS replaced today. Picked it up kinda late so just drove home ... about 5 miles, not a real test. It's probably just my imagination but pulling up a gentle hill from a stop it felt like it responded more crisply, and getting on the freeway it downshifted twice very smoothly and appropriately with smooth throttle tip-in. I know that should have nothing to do with the CPS but it seems to control so many things, who knows. Anyway, no surging, no check engine light, so far so good. CPS part # is 90919-05098 per the work order. I forgot to ask for the old part.

Same experience for me. I thought @bshammer0 was full of crap, but I feel a difference in how smooth the engine runs, especially at the higher Rpms with the 98 sensor. Placebo? Maybe but it feels better.

Did you just reset the ECU? If you had the dealership install it they likely reset the ECU and learning so don't be too optimistic unless you put at least 100 miles on it and it's still a notable improvement. My symptoms returned shortly after 50 miles.
