None of the visible settings (dash display defaults, radio etc) were changed when my CPS was replaced ... are they stored in some non-volatile memory or do they connect a separate battery to keep those alive? Or is there a dealer-only ECU reset which doesn't involve killing power to the whole truck? I have a Carista OBD dongle but I don't think it has that function.

In my experience, your settings must be stored in the long-term memory because disconnecting the battery only clears short-term stuff and my dash display, radio, is unchanged. Only thing I do notice from the cab is the XM seems to reset itself and take a minute to recalibrate but my account info and presets are still there when it comes back up.

The thread that links to the testing Toyota did to identify the problem and come up with some sort of fix talks about the changes to the sensor and the changes are internal and relate to circuit changes.

Since there is a recall I would think it will be replaced free of charge.

That would probably be a good idea brother, better than having it fail at a bad time.
