It looks like a simple replacement on the v6. Any idea if one went out could I just unbolt the bad one and install a new one and drive away, or will the truck need to be hooked up to techstream or something to reboot the system?

I would agree that it looks doable in the field. However, I'm not sure what this step would require: "SEPARATE COOLER COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY"

I believe that is on the 2tr-fe. Look at the removal and install on the 2GR-FKS. I believe that is the V6. It shows removing an access panel and then unbolting the sensor.

replacement looks super simple on the V6, but i need a mechanic to tell us if a computer update/reboot is needed when replacing it. If nothing more than replacing the part is needed I am buying one tomorrow and carrying in the toolkit.

I uploaded all references to CPS in the service manual. If it doesn't say anything about dinking with the ECM in the installation / replacement section then it's not needed.

Damn, will it not run until you cleared the codes or would you just still have trac off lights and/or check engine lights displaying on the dash?

Clearing the codes will simply turn off the MIL (malfunction indicator light), or what some people refer to as "check engine".

May not be practical since CMP can change with VVTi. Also, Toyota likely didn't anticipate the CKP being as failure-prone as it is currently in the field. The previous part used in 2005-2015 Tacos and a string of other Toyota models has proven to be reliable.

shut off oil flow to the actuators and the cams go to nuetral position. Then they can be used for engine position.
