I'm happy with my OEM ceramic pads. Don't notice a difference in stopping power or noise.

I guess I am the exception, for I have about 130K on my Tacoma and my original pads are 4 mm out of 12 on the pads and 3 mm of 4 on the brake shoes. I tend to anticipate my actions well, but moved to Charlotte, NC about 1 yr ago and expect driving in that rat race traffic will take a toll. I got over 200K on my last Tacoma pads.
Cannot imagine how someone would need to replace pads at 20 - 30K.
Rambo, about how many mm were left on the pads when you replace them?

Just replaced my pads an rotors (original OEM) 92k. Checked prices from Toy and local parts store between 180 - 210 for full set, went with local parts with ceramic pads and middle of road rotors, hope to get another 92k out of these or more!

Pad longevity is highly dependent on driving style. You can compare longevity between pads one installs but not between drivers. For those wanting OEM pads, Akebono makes the pads for Toyota; so no need to buy from the dealer. Same for Aisin water pumps and NGK or Denso plugs, and a host of other components.

By chance does anybody know the Akenobo part number for front and rear pads on a 06 V6 4x4?

You sure it is Akebono? The OEM pads I took off say it was made by Advics which can also be found in rockauto. Even Toyota has them listed to be made by Advics which is a subsidiary of Aisin.

One thing many people don't know is that all Toyota OEM pads from your Toyota dealership - for the same vehicle - are not the same. The pads that come with your vehicle are actually fairly expensive and many people balked at paying so much when aftermarket pads were generally cheaper. (We won't get into how long they last.) This forced Toyota to come out with lower priced - but still Toyota branded - pads to compete. If you ask your friendly local Toyota dealership parts guy or girl, they can get you either set you want. I will warn you that the cheaper pads do not last as long though.

It appears Toyota uses both brake vendors. Toyota owns about 30% of Advics and is a top shareholder of Akebono.
