Right the mall crawler pavement babies who never see the dirt needed a truck and that's why they made the long bed sport.

Odd that there are no access cabs available.

I could understand that if you were looking for a double cab, which was why I ended up buying a new 17.
All of the tacos in socal were either DCSB or the access cab (long bed but small cab)......no DCLB OR. Also the low mileage 12'-15' were selling for 29-32k

Yes. I have a unicorn yeah!
I know what I wanted and in construction 6ft ladder 6ft bed no brainer. I don’t have to look cool but they do look cool, like limousines. I found one as soon as I walked in the lot with 000003 miles and bought it. Since then the old now I own one EVERYBODY has one does not apply here! I’ve seen 3 total in my color and configuration. 80/20 in favor of short beds here.

I will say at 18.79 ft long it’s not the easiest to park in crowded southern cal.
Been driving over 30 years and still have to do 3 point backups at times

I was also in a time crunch too and the closest long bed double cab with a tech package was a month away. I had to buy before the end of the month so it can be frustrating if you have to choose between an SR5 long bed or a Sport long bed with the color I wanted. In Florida for some reason the long beds aren't as popular but they do have a following which my wife wasn't feeling the look of.

That's kinda what eased the pain for me... The big hindrance of a 5' bed for me is that you can't fit lumber or sheet goods, and a 6' bed has the same problem. I haul construction materials and such quite a bit, but never haul motorcycles or much of anything that would benefit considerably from 6' vs. 5'. For my purposes anything without a full size 8' bed is a compromise of about the same magnitude.

I quit golfing years ago, but I was able to fit my clubs in the trunk of a Miata so I can't imagine a problem fitting them in a 5' truck bed. Groceries mostly go in the back seat as much as possible so they're not sliding / rolling around on the way home.

Is not accurate. Seriously...just see your Fleet MGR and have them pull up Regional stock and in-bounds.

Here in BC Canada, I would say 86.78% of all Tacomas on the road are DCLB TRD Sport..
TRD offroad with 5 ft bed is the unicorn

Toyota's distribution network and Toyota Manufacturing dots do not directly connect. When Toyota first setup shop in the USA in the early 1960's, they could not afford the capital for setting up a distribution and dealer network. So they went into exclusive agreements with private investors that divided up the whole USA into geographic distribution zones that controlled both what they will sell for Toyota and also control the dealership networks in those states each distributor served. The sign on the dealership lot may have said "Toyota" but the distributors owned or directed the dealers with Toyota Manufacturing just providing the vehicles.

Toyota corporate eventually began to buy out and get back all the different regional distributors with the exception of Gulf States Toyota and Southeast Toyota. Buyers in those states those two distributors still control, have a extra layer of crap and forced add on cost to deal with that the rest of buyers elsewhere do not have. That is why some people call those two holdover privately held distributors a "Mafia" but a legal one.

4-door tacomas around here in northern CA, almost all come with 5ft beds. Toyota clearly st ates that 6-ft beds are available, but I think it depends on where you are and what the demand is. Around here, the 5ft beds are pretty much what people want. However, it I had an access cab or extended cab, I would probably get the 6ft bed too, but with a 4-door Tacoma, the 5ft bed just looks better on the truck.

I don't think you are really willing to travel long distances to get one, but if you are, then contact Jeff Teague at Fred Anderson Toyota in Raleigh NC. He is a well known toyota youtuber, who does some really great and informative videos on toyotas. Here is his information:

Are those off a short bed? Mine go back almost to the rear flare. I can easily use them as a step to get into the bed from the side.
