    Hey all,

it’s been a while since I’ve been active on the forum. I’ve had quite the history with Toyota trucks and SUVs. I’ve owned just about every generation of 4Runner, Tacoma, and Tundra since the early 2000s model years.

I recently decided to take a test drive in a 4th gen TRDOR 6MT and was super impressed with the new generation. I had an idea that I’d like the motor after purchasing a ‘24 LC last year. Even without the hybrid, this motor and truck in general feels leaps and bounds ahead of my 3rd gens (2016 TRDOR 6MT and 2021 TRDOR auto). The fact that the manual is still available in a 2025 truck and how nicely it pairs with the new turbo 4 is what really sold me on it.

Long story short I’ll be picking one up tomorrow, and I’m so happy to be back in a manual Tacoma for my truck needs!

Looking forward to being back on this great forum!!

They really improved almost all of the complaints with the 3rd gen.
Nice truck! I’m jealous of your big screen. Mine has the smaller one, but that’s ok… the Land Cruiser is my fancy ride.

Yet it blows my mind people with 2nd and 3rd gens hate it with a passion. I had 3 3rd gens and love the 4th. I couldn’t be happier

My gripe with the 4G is getting an Xtracab. Yes I could have physically bought a SR last week, it could have already been presold as it's gone now. I'd rather have the SR5 and why is it such a pain in the ass to buy a vehicle that's currently in production? Toyota is the worse company to buy a new vehicle from.

The turbo 4 cylinder was what got everyone all bent out of shape. But we forget that the V6 in the 3rd gen was castrated severely with that Atkison's cycle BS which killed torque and HP for fuel economy not to mention the terrible 6 speed.

I kind of had the same mentality the 4th gen haters did. Until I drove one. Now I own a 4th gen and it Sh**ts all over the turd gen. I always find myself inadvertently speeding because of the power and torque the 4th gen has. And the turbo is not always boosting either.

I thought I was speeding a lot also. Then I got my GPS out.
At 70 mph speedo indicated, my GPS says 67 mph.

If the 3rd is the turd gen, can we please start calling the 4th the "fart gen" for the turbo noise? And I'm speaking as a fan of the fart gen. But I love tongue in cheek nick names.

Funny 3rd gen people hate on the 4th, but that’ll always happen. I remember back in 2015 being so excited to buy a 3rd gen Tacoma… and all the second gen guys were hating on them.

Now to be fair I have owned multiple of each generation, and in my opinion… the 3rd gen left quite a bit to be desired engine wise. I’d honestly rather rock a 1st gen double cab. The manual solved some of the issues, but you don’t feel the engine pull on that truck until like 3500rpm…

I’d take a 3rd gen over any domestic for sure, but I really like this engine. Both in my LC and this taco

I hear you. I would’ve happily gotten the xtracab if available. The rear seats are useless especially if you’re semi-tall. I’d take the xtracab and longer bed.

would also be great with jump seats in that configuration but we’re not the guys they build these trucks for apparently

Kind of why i waited a little bit. Didn’t see what i wanted until i did. The rates were pretty decent at the time so i went for it

DCSB has the most proportional look and tend to look the best when built up. I could also find a Xtracab if I wanted to put in more effort, it's just more work and I haven't got the time.

4th gen took away the possibility of 6MT with 6ft bed, otherwise I'd get on it.
Really hope Toyota offers it at some point during the life cycle

Did they move the parking brake buttons on the '25? They're on the center console near the drive mode stack on my '24. Where your buttons are is the phone-landing-pad, a convenient place to stash it on the poverty spec models like mine (or where somebody retrofitted a charger like I did...) or the inductive charger if you sprang for an upgrade package.

I certainly don't hate the 4th gen. My one legitimate complaint about them is the smaller fuel tank. I do like that you can get a 4dr long bed offroad in canada now. I don't like that you can't get a long bed manual though.
