Impressed with the 4th Gen

I really like the greater torque of the hybrid and I like the look of the 18" TRD OR wheels a little better but the lack of storage under the rear seat drastically hindered my desire for the hybrid. I was dead set on a Premium and there is minimal storage behind the set of Premium trucks..... I really needed the storage so no hybrid for me.... I also like the more simplistic non-hybrid. Yes, I 2nd guess my decision from time to time.

 

I do not miss my 2nd gen. This new truck is amazing. You can’t compare the two.

 

I wonder if the JBL variant has fake engine noise and the non-JBL variant doesn’t. That’s how the Tundra is.

 

Mine is JBL, sounds like a cement mixer with rocks in it, but has the fake engine noise turned off.

 

Adjusted for inflation, that $36k from mid 2016 is equivalent to nearly $48k today.
Seems like you saved money.

why is it called a hybrid? its not electric and gas. dealer O talked with said it just gives it more torque. btw. whats the difference between horsepower and torque?

 

It's a hybrid because it is a hybrid. Gas plus electric. Batteries under the rear seat.

dealer either didn't understand or didn't explain it well.

the hybrid system here is aimed to provide more power/torque when needed rather than to emphasize increased mpg

and as for difference between torque & horsepower, they're related. HP is a measure of power or rate at which work is done. Torque is a measure of rotational force. and so, HP = Torque * RPM.

i have the Hybrid and truth be told, I only wanted that motor... 465 ft lbs of torque makes a massive difference (to me) in everyday driving.

I like that the car will run on battery only when cruising at really low speeds - and one solid bonus for me is the bed AC inverter supports 1300 watts! I can attach my garage fridge to it and will make a huge difference in what you can run when camping.

So far, i've been really enjoying the driving experience. It's punchy, and very quick off the line, and as for rear seat storage, I don't really miss it at all.

 

yeah, same for me. recently had need to get everything out of the truck and had a bunch of stuff in there that I didn't need and frankly had forgotten I'd put there a few years back. So lack of underseat storage won't be an issue when I buy a 4G

 

anyone done maintenance on it? oil change etc...is it as easy as the V6 2nd gen?

Not sure what 2nd gen oil changes involved, but I like that the 4th gen returns to a spin on filter vs the 3rd gen's cartridge filter. Seems like placement coulda been a little better, but that's easily addressed
