There is a solution: I have a truck and a car. Tacoma off-road manual, slow and truck like. Volvo v60 polestar, 4.2 0-60, turbo and supercharged, corners like its on rails and hauls the mail.

I mean... I drove everything before. BMW, Lexus, Acura, Chevy, Honda’s ... yeah it’s not German engineering... and it’s not a car either. It’s a truck. You described driving a truck. I’m not sure how a full size Chevy Truck drives either but this isn’t a full size. This is the best looking, longest lasting, best value long term truck you can get and you can mod everything from the outside to even what you don’t see... will I own it forever? Not sure. I’ve only ever lasted 1 year.. 2 years max with my vehicles but... sure as hell never been this excited about a truck.

I also have two vehicles. My truck and a sports car. Each do their own thing well. If I never needed the utility or seating, I'd just keep the sports car as my only vehicle, but as it is, the truck is far more useful and what I'd keep if I had to only pick one. To the OP, did you buy your Tacoma for some specific utility need, or did you just want to try something different?

Certainly the best solution. If only my wallet were fatter and my wife more understanding.

You gotta go drive it. Sit in it. Eat a hot dog and fries at a drive inn in it. Clean it. Get it dirty. Then decide.
I have driven 3K miles in 3 weeks in my new Tundra. I am starting to be one with it.i loved my Tacoma but not when dragging a 6K+ trailer.

I like a lot of different vehicles too. but, I always find myself coming back to a truck. I have owned fast cars, slow cars, SUVs and crossovers and I always find myself wanting a truck. do I need it? no. I had a Subaru Crosstrek before my Tacoma, and anything I needed to haul, I threw in the back. I don't tow, so thats not an issue of mine. the only gripe I have with my Tacoma, and I do mean it is the only gripe I have with mine, is that I wish the driver seat height was adjustable. I know, I know, the 2020 Tacoma is since they have power seats. but I am not about to trade my 2018 for one. I can honestly say I finally have a truck exactly the way I want it. now, will I keep it? absolutely not. I don't keep anything longer than 2 years. never have, probably never will. I am patiently waiting on Toyota to get off their ass and refresh the 4 Runner...

I’ve had my TRD Off Road for roughly a week, and there are times that I miss the 2015 Cherokee Trailhawk that I traded in. The Cherokee had a nicer interior, more gadgets such as heated seats and steering wheel, a MUCH nicer stereo, etc. BUT, it also had the sorriest excuse for headlights that I’ve experienced, a gas filler door that froze closed as soon as the temp dropped below 32, cramped cargo space, and the wonky 9 speed tranny and other quality/reliability issues that left me with little confidence of having many trouble free and low cost miles ahead.

As a homeowner with a 25 mile commute, I decided a 4x4 truck was the best option for me. After researching, pricing and test driving the full size trucks from the big three, I wasn’t really impressed with the styling, size and ride of any of them. I was also less than impressed with the Colorado, and had misgivings about the turbo 4 and new 10 speed tranny of the Ranger.

So I decided that the Tacoma was the best choice for me. I love the looks and capabilities. I think it rides and handles well for a truck. There’s a robust aftermarket catering to it. Best of all, it comes with the quality and reliability of a Toyota.

It also holds its value better than any other vehicle sold today.

I bought my Taco because I do truck things that only a truck can do. Everything from hauling rocks/bark/lumber to taking my motorbikes to the track or to trails. I didn't buy it to drag race or race through the curves. (that's what motorbikes are for) Also, I only put about 7,000 miles a year on it, and it's my only car. Not sure I could have the lifestyle I have without a truck.

Hey "75z28", you got banned because you didn't like the tacoma, so you bought an old chevy.. and you made another account to come back and talk more shit about the tacoma on a tacoma enthusiast forum? Did your parent's not give you enough attention as a kid?

My off-road truck doesn’t handle and accelerate like my sports car!

My sports car doesn’t mob through the snow and Forrest trails like my off-road truck!

    Pick one and be happy:)

Not at all. I went in prepared to pay msrp. I also didn’t realize how rare the manual pros were when Mountain States called me to let me know I was next on the list AND that they had the exact truck I wanted. Stars were aligned for sure and I feel super lucky to have landed it. Mountain States was awesome I’m the fact they did t up charge this rare bird. Charged me MRSP and not a dime more. It’s part of their no haggle policy and I very much appreciated it.

Good lord...Why does it seem like everybody wants everything to be the be all end all at everything these days! I guess the push of a button on a hand held smart cellular device is the culprit. Buy a truck for truck stuff. It ain't a sports car... If your sports car does everything you need to take care of you and take you where you want to go and you enjoy it and aren't missing anything, buy and drive your sports car.
Some of us need and use trucks to carry tools, materials, building supplies for work and or Home Depot runs for maintaining our homes. We also like our toys, bikes, boats, camping, fishing hunting gear etc.... You can cram those things into a truck and drive it to and from work! So we buy trucks!
    ...SORTED!

I’m coming from a 16 WRX so I can understand the loss of power and handling but I knew that getting into this. I will say that having a pedal commander has helped ease some of that pain. It allows me a little more peppy throttle response that the truck lacks. But I got the truck for utility, being able to tow my motorcycle, throw bicycles in the back, camping etc. To each their own.

Want to appreciate Tacoma handling? Drive a Jeep. I have a 2014 Wrangler. LOL. Want to hate the Tacoma on the road, drive a good car. My C63 AMG is a blast. But, when it comes down to it, I always love my Tacoma (manual tranny). It's like an comfortable shoe. It's usually my first pick. To each his own. Pick what you like.

Understood, I’m just trying to figure it all out for myself. I know there is no magic bullet. I already bought my truck. No going back anytime soon. I do intend do to enjoy all it has to offer.

    Wallet: get a cheap dd
Wife: I picked up a cheap dd to save $$ of fuel and insurance.

    Done

My insurance went down when I got the Tacoma. Having less miles on the polestar had a huge savings.
