MY is Model Year. It is just below you avatar pic. As I said, there's no Toyota update for 2021s. Therefore, your only option are the vF Tunes.

It should have the new build, I would go and test drive similar vehicle to your own and see if there is a difference. I have a 2020 with the latest update, and although there is some gear searching in hills and with speeds over 80mph, it is acceptable. I do not have any sluggishness from a stop, and it performs quite well at speeds under 60mph, even loaded.

Flashed my 19 over to 04b33 and I'm disappointedish. My custom tune I made for it definitely drove better. Now to start all over with 04b33 :D. Cruise control is better. Maybe I'll use it.

Hey thats a great idea- I sure will do that. I wil actually give a guy a call down at the lot and see if they have a similar one to the one I have. It may just be the way it is and Im still new to it. The 2020 Highlander my wife has has a total different feel for sure.I told her that you cant compare both these cause two total different beast.

Hey thank you for the info-it may just be me cause I am trying to figure two differnt trucks and with my 08 silverado I use to have compared to this is way way different. I did actually drive a 4x4 they had at the lot that was close to the way this one looked and it had the crawl version and it was awhile before and seemed to drive better but it may had just be me and the guy said it had the bilstein shocks to and when I went back another time to look at them - I seen this truck and just figured they were the same so i didnt drive it(stupid me on that part) and bought it where it set. Even though its got this feel I sure love the little truck and its got so much for me to learn to use and its part of the household now.

I always thought the complaints about driveability were a little overblown. Certainly not perfect, but after the first 1000 miles of learning my driving the truck drove fine.

I saw this thread and bought the Carista OBD2 adaptor and discovered that my 2020 OR was built with 4B81 which explains why my complaints were minimal compared to most. I’m sure it could still get better with ov tune but that’s a project for another day.

After driving it and putting some miles on it-its just me and I cant compare my old 5.3 silverado to this. It does seem to be on the low side of power but, from whats been told to me thats normal. Hell if it gets to 75 on the interstate then Im fine-lolol

Every truck will eventually get a tsb
Pay close attention to your fuel consumption after the tsb is performed

I just had this done today with my 10k check up.
My truck is almost a year old now.
I hated it and got a little more aggressive with the gas pedal and the "learning transmission" finally came around. It took a while, but the transmission issue got a lot better.
So today, I mentioned the TSB and they updated the calibration on ECM and TCM.

It was an instant difference. Very happy now.

late year 2019 Sport here. !0k check up as well and I guess i mentioned the right buzzwords. the service guy hesitated, when i asked about the TSB, but when i returned to pick it up, they had done the update.
He wouldn't give me the copy of the TSB, but drivability is better. I'm going to leave my Pedal Commander off for a while to see how this goes, but generally smother shifting

So, if I’m tuned right now is this TSB considered a “downgrade”?

Also, if I went in for the TSB would the tune show up?

    Thanks!

I recently scheduled mine online for 20k service and put in the comments I wanted the TSB applied. When I checked in, I had the TSB printed and handy. The Service Advisor asked me what I was experiencing and I explained hesitation on acceleration and turns as well as frequent shifts with cruise and small rolling hills. Wasn't sure if they would apply it. Never looked at the TSB other than to record the number.

I got a video with summary of my service and first thing in the video was tech saying TSB was applied. Have driven about 1,000 miles of highway (700) and city (300) since the update. Very happy with the results. No longer feel the need to use ECT or S-mode. Skinny pedal is much more responsive, and shifts are certainly smoother and less frequent.

I hope this isn't the case, but it has crossed my mind. Earlier in my ownership, the service manager said they can make it "forget" your habits since most people "baby" their new trucks. I wonder if this re-flashing is a short term solution? And the trans will just "re-learn bad habits?"

I took mine in for the Fuel Pump recall (16kmiles). I complained about the transmission. I wasn't aware of this TSB but asked them to update the firmware/software if there was a later version available. Service adviser said he had a 2017 that was so bad he got rid of it and is now driving a 2nd gen and is happy.

Well he said there was a new update and that they re-flashed it. Like most here, I'm instantly happy with the way it drives (and I've been second-guessing my purchase for a while). I'm HOPING it is a permanent fix, and isn't just because it's a "fresh flash."

Anyone who has had this flash had it go back to stuttering, "missing," surging/hunting for gears? Incidentally mine would occasionally have valve clatter/noise when upshifting--I haven't heard that in a vehicle in 30 years!

I probably did too many things at once and will never know
    1) Fuel pump recall
    2) reflash/TSB
    3) filled up with Premium (60+ bucks!!) for the first time.

At any rate it runs great right now. Like a Toyota should. And yes I saw them drive it before they made the update--I guess they could duplicate it (I was worried they couldn't)

Service ticket says: "Performed ECM Update 1910 .4" . . not sure how to read that, what the ".4" means, etc.
