21mpg with 285s...??? Seems a little suspect to me. I used to drive all freeway on stock tires back in the day and the best I ever got was 21mpg. With 285s that's ludacris.

I just drive very conservatively. ;)

I never go over 2,000rpm, and I never go over 65. I always have cruise control on while on the freeway and I don't use the A/C.

I also take off slower than a snail. :)

You people depress me. I get right around 17.5 MPG each tank in fully stock form carrying nothing. 99% highway driving at 75-80 mph. 09 V6 SR5 6 speed.

The truck has only 1200 miles on ODO and has gone through only 4 or so fill ups. I sure hope the promises of break-in improving mpg are around the corner.

Dam I get 18mpg fully modified carrying a bed cage and tools on 285s. Ofcourse that's almost all freeway and some city.

    your problem is highlighted.

also... if you modulate the throttle yourself, you can do better than the cruise control. ;)

If you people stop going 75-80 you'll get better mileage.

    Keep the RPM's under 2500.

Last tank 430 miles on 18.5 gallons; that's 23.25 MPG. All city driving here in Tucson.

Highway mileage drops to 20'ish since I usually drive 80.

Worst mileage ever was below 12 MPG while driving with a 14 ft u haul trailer on the highway.

x2, but I'd recommend trying to keep it below 2,000. ;)

Trucks don't have very good aerodynamics. :p

I drove from the DC area to Orlando Florida back in April. On the way down I had the windows open about half way and averaged about 16.5 mpg IIRC. On the way back I ran the A/C and got a little closer to 19 mpg (again, IIRC). Those are nice #s though. I wish I could get that kind of mpgs. I normally average 17-18 with 60-40 highway driving.
Edit: oh my bad I didn't see the part about 285's lol. Holy crap then you got great mileage!

My 4x4 dc was doing 21.5 consistently with worn out 40 pound Fortera 245s. Recently switched to 265/75-16 duratracs and I have to work hard to get 18-19 mpgs (~45 pound tires). Costwise not a huge hit, but psychologically I'm sure missing the 20s especially since my daily driver (44 miles) was a Civic up until March
