Sorry, took that out of context. I see what you're saying now.

I wonder if it's possible to get any better than the 22-23 range. If there's someone out there getting that kind of mileage consistently with a 2nd gen V6 I haven't seen it yet. But dammit, I'm trying! :D

The energy difference between E10, and non "oxygeneted fuel is approximatly 2%. Not 10%. And 2% more energy in the fuel, does not equal 2% better mileage. Ethanol is a waste I agree, but it's a small, small part of fuel economy. It's economically a bad idea, but green is the new religion......

Not true. Ethanol does have less energy. It still has energy content and it does transfer that energy during the combustion process. The mileage drop on E10 is more along the lines of two to three percent. I've owned two flex fuel vehicles, and the mileage drop on E85 was 15% on my Impala, and 20% on my HHR. The Impala's losses were mitigated by the AFM engine that it had, allowing it to run on three cylinders under low load.

Along with all the other things that influence mpg, the number of cold starts is also a slight factor. Engines run very rich until they get a little heat into them. I guess it's possible that someone could get better fuel economy driving all day on city streets (keeping the engine at temp) than short highway runs once or twice a day (regular cool-downs).

i noticed that when i got my slightly larger than stock Duratracs(265/70/17) tires, that the speedometer is just about right on according to my GPS, but my odometer was off a bit. So those of you that have bigger than stock tires and figure your MPG by looking at the odo, you are probably getting better mpg than you think. if you have a gps, record your mileage on the gps and see what you come out with.

HAHAA.. I thought I got pretty good mileage when i hit 300 miles on the tank twice in a row.. I just did the math and that's only 17.6MPG...

Yep. A few months ago, I started a temporary job just down the road maybe four miles. A five day week of driving down to work and back at the end of the day with some minor side trips here and there gives me horrible mileage compared to long trips. It's a fairly significant difference.

Just figured I would put this up for those that think a DC 4X4 OR cannot break 20. I have checked my ODO against a GPS and MapQuest trip miles on long runs. It is accurate. I filled up after this picture and it took 17.203 gallons.

    22.455

Mostly highway miles, about 5 MPH over posted speeds. about 60 miles was stop and go, in town driving. Should have pushed it over the 400 mile mark to join the club, but I was on a toll road with limited fuel access.

    Guys,
It's not rocket science; fuel economy goes directly to driving habits..

Here in Mexico tht'a why a choose my Tacoma TRD, with the VVTI you can have the best of both worlds, good MPG under 1500-2000 RPM's and fast launch and speed using the 4 valves per cyl... you decide what you need...

Its nice to see that someone else actually tracks fuel mileage. I average 22.25mpg over the last 52k miles. I have 2wd 4cyl prerunner 5spd. I've had 25+ coming down from the mountains and 16 with a heavy load. I believe alot of people check their mileage one or two times and hold those figures as gospel.

To compare with this spreadsheet, I've joined the 400 club several times, but had to top off the tank to do so. I avg 304 miles per tank, 13.66 gallons per fill up, $31.42 average fill cost, $2.30 avg/gal since inception, and fueling cost/mile is $0.107. Overall operating cost, including tires and maintenance is $0.12/mile.

I only use low grade gas, 87 octane. Great sheet. I hold much more stock in numbers quoted and backed up by data than those who perform back of the envelop calcs every fillup.

It's not hard to get 23 mpg on the hwy. I've done it multiple times, including with 500lbs or so in the bed, but my problem is I hardly ever do any hwy driving.

I get an average of 19-20mpg driving a V6 Auto Prerunner. I drive through Seattle everyday, so I have mostly stop and go with a mix of freeway. If I drive only freeway, I can get it to 22-23 mpg.

I did not take it on the highway at all. It's all suburban/city driving.

Are you all driving a V6? I have a 2009 4x4 access cab 4 cylinder and ive normally been getting around 28mpg. The best i've done was just under 33mpg. I do however have a scanguage and use that to assist my driving. I normally drive 5 over the limit unless i've got plenty of time, then just drive the limit. I also have a tonneau cover, but I can't image that's helping all that much? I'm going to be putting in a deck plate mod as well, im told its an excelent way to help! ^_^

Just drove round trip from Birmingham AL to Chattanooga TN. I got 330 miles out of 14.8 gallons before I filled up, still had a little less than a 1/4 tank. Thats 22.29MPG average in a 4.0L 4x4 double cab long bed. It was 90% high way and almost never got the RPMs above 2000.
