My wife and I had a trip planned for next Thursday through the following Tuesday, but residual effects from the hurricane caused us to cancel and plan to head North and explore Michigan with our time off instead. We will be leaving out of Dayton, Ohio and staying at a family friend's cabin near Wellston, MI the first day. That's all we have planned so far. We enjoy doing day hikes up to about 10 miles, or exploring areas with a lot of history. Two sights I have heard of are the Pictured rocks and Whitefish point in the UP. Is Mackinac Island worth a look this time of year? Does anyone have any recommendations for some more places to look into possibly visiting?

We will be taking the roof top tent and will probably stay in whatever campgrounds are near where we end up, or a hotel as a last resort. I wouldn't have a problem dispersed camping with the truck, but I'm not sure if I could convince her.

I appreciate any recommendations or insight; normally we have our trips pretty well planned out so trying to come up with something this last minute is unusual for me. I have already found that we will need to pick up a Recreation Passport to get the truck into State Forests; any other caveats anyone may know of?

    Thanks!

I do, as I go fishing in Spanish, Ontario most years; I am pretty sure hers is valid too. However, we will probably try to keep things closer to Michigan as to keep driving time down and exploring time up lol.
