I agree, it's much, much better and I wouldn't notice anything if I didn't know to look for it.

Hmm...my truck has this vibration which is right around 17mph as I've noticed under braking. It's one thing after another with it. Transmission, now leaf springs and steering dampener...
I'd hate to even bring it up, but I've noticed the truck is very unstable under moderate braking. Steering likes to jerk and pull all over. I wonder if said steering stabilizer would help with that.

I know moving to a truck(from my previous 06 Subaru WRX) would be a huge difference, but after driving my fathers 2016 F150, There are just a ton of issues with the Tacoma that don't seem to of been "refined" or thoroughly tested. His F150 is smooth as butter. And his truck is netting him 25mpg(ecoboost V6). I'm lucky if I see 18. Unfortunately an equally equipped F150 as my Tacoma is close to $60K.

Oh btw, someone had asked if the new leaf springs changed the ride height. I measured before and after and the back is now about 1/2" higher.

Thanks for this. I just dropped my truck off and referenced this information. I have the rumble strip feeling when slowing and the truck has also developed a driveline vibration at around 45 MPH which seems to oscillate. We shall see.

It's going to be a few days since they are keeping my truck because the Tech and Service Advisor are off for a couple of days, so they will resume looking at it on Friday. I'll provide an update as I learn more. I was very willing to let them keep the truck for however long they needed (you work with them, they usually work with you), so hopefully it pays off in the end.

Well I'm getting my truck back tomorrow. Toyota TAS was involved and they also sent an FTS out to the dealership. They are indicating that there is no fix available at this time but Toyota is working on it. The advisor told me that my pinion angle is way out of spec - something like 2.8 or 2.9 degrees. Here is what's on my electronic invoice:

CUSTOMER STATES THERE IS AN OSCILLATING VIBRATION AT FROM THE DRIVETRAIN. THE CUSTOMER STATES THE VIBRATION IS THE WORST AROUND 46-47 MPH, BUT WILL WORSEN AT 17-20 MPH WHEN SLOWING. CHECK AND REPORT. SEE ATTACHED NOTES FROM A REPAIR DONE ON ANOTHER TACOMA AT ANOTHER DEALERSHIP.

Cause: CONFIRMED THE VIBRATION. FILED A TAS CLAIM WITH TOYOTA(CLAIM#DELETED). REMOVED REAR DRIVESHAFT PER TAS, AND VIBRATION IS NO LONGER PRESENT. MEASURED JOINT ANGLE AND LEAF SPRINGS NUMBERS AND RECORDED WITH TAS. FTS INSPECTED VEHICLE, AND GAVE OK TO RELEASE THE VEHICLE AS NO SAFTEY ISSUE IS PRESENT.

Correction: TOYOTA IS WORKING ON A FIX FOR THE ISSUE. ADVISOR TO CONTACT THE CUSTOMER WHEN REPAIR IS AVAILABLE.

One thing to note is the vibration at higher speeds began after the driveshaft was greased. I've had the 17 mph rumble strip vibration since the truck was new. It currently has about 4,900 miles on it and is just a week shy of being a year old.

Interesting.....I thought the updated springs were the fix. Keep us posted.

You have a DCSB OR just like me, so I don't know. I'll call them back in a few weeks to see what's up. Perhaps they are revising the springs again or they only released a limited number of replacement units to test if they corrected the problem. I'm wondering if there will be a full TSB as a result of this fix.

Dealer had my truck all week. Rode with the tech last weekend and couldn't reproduce the rumble stip feel/sound. That said, it is about a 40 mile drive to the dealer and the sound and vibration diminishes the longer you drive and the warmer it is. Cooler vehicle and weather definitely heighten the effect. I played him a video took that you could make out the sound. They drove the truck the following day and called me to let me know they felt/heard what had brought it in for. They stated they contacted Toyota Corp and the FTS. They said that both were aware of the problem, but don't have a fix yet. I picked up my truck, with basically a "we'll call you when we have a plan".

I have noticed that engaging 4 hi elemines the issue. it only happens in 2wd.

I've always thought the rear end vibes/shudder are related to the composite bed. There isn't a solid platform to anchor the rear drivetrain to like with a steel bed. The Gen I Tundra had the same two piece driveshaft with the center carrier bearing but it was smooth as glass, no complaints about vibes/shudder.

The drivetrain is exclusively mounted to the frame, so the bed or body is not part of the equation.

I have the same problem. I'm in Kansas and it's been getting colder by the week. I noticed a weird vibration that comes in 1sec intervals w/ 1 sec pause and lasts for a few miles until the vehicle warms up and goes away. Only happens on cold starts for the first maybe 5 miles. After that its mostly smooth. I have 887 coils up front, 5100 shocks with a deaver AAL. Do you think the AAL causes this? I have had my Tacoma brand new for 14000 miles and started noticing this vibration maybe 3 weeks ago at 13000. I installed the lift at maybe 6000 miles, no complaints.

I noticed the vibe after having it in 4 wheel drive. Had my 2 inch lift and aal done 3 months prior.

I thought of that, but a steel bed is also bolted to the frame, providing more of a stable platform. The thing is the Gen1 Tundra had the same two-piece driveshaft and carrier bearing, the same slideyoke, same A750 5-spd autotrans, but it was smooth as silk.

The frame is what gives rigidity on this truck, (unless you have a Ridgeline, then is the unibody).
