I LOVED the 4.7 V8 in my 2006 4runner. It was very quick and sounded great with an aftermarket muffler. If they put that in a Tacoma I would be all over it.

It's just a hole in the air box, no reason you can't do it on this one too.

I did, I like the xtra growl it gave it, not much but it changed and that was really
my only reason for doing it. I need the aftermarket tube! next! :D

Hard to say without seeing dyno results. Is the difference only at 200 more RPM? I doubt it. I'd like to see the hp and tq span of all three engines. And as to your comment of "If you are concerned about hp get anything besides a truck.", this shows me that you have no idea what you are talking about. I would guess that you've never had anything but 4-6 cylinder vehicles.

Im more concerned with trying to grab some extra low end torque than the HP but the two aren't mutually exclusive so gains in one area will likely lead to gains in the other.

I played with a older Impala and the way to get the power to come in on a lower rpm was the Cam, most porting and oversize throttle bodies and exhaust seemed to push the power up toward redline. The cam is timed to produce power in a certain RPM range and if youre looking to move it around you can probably find someone to grind a cam shaft for low to midrange. Im not sure you could gain much without having a tuner and a few hours on a dyno though. The other way would be to bump up compression by swapping out head gasket to a thinner one or shave the heads. The SS Impala has thinner head gaskets than the Z28 or TA and along with the cam it had better low end for a big car.

Don't go deckplate if you wish to keep your low end.

According to what you wrote the difference in torque is 200 rpm...the horsepower is a difference of 600 rpm...

I know exactly what i am talking about. The hp is already at 278 at 6k rpm...isnt that enough for a midsize?

I think he wishes the peak torque to be more usable and moved down in the rpm range. In the 80s the screaming eagle kits for 80 inch evo motors had these garbage kits that put HP and TQ up near redline and ruined the fact the Harley is a low rpm engine. Who wants to run around town at 6k like a japanese street street bike, its a truck and should have low to mid range power.

Thats what i want...he wanted the engine that was out of the lexus's that were tuned to run at a higher rpm.

Header is the only way to move the power curve down to the low end... exhaust tips, cutting open your air box, monster energy drink stickers, and CAIs won't help.

If you want significantly more torque/hp boost it like @Rock Lobster said.

Honestly, there isn't a bolt on option to add any realistic hp/torque/performance to the new V6. Exhaust/Intake/etc. is all very optimized from the factory, so any aftermarket options are going to likely trade torque to make more hp (and more noise ... and v6 sound like shit).

I think I read the new engine has 12 injectors total ... 6 port injectors and 6 direct injectors ... and it switches back and forth between them depending on rpm/load/general mood ... That sounds like a *lot* of fun to tune for boost lol ... in fact, I am not sure if there is a current tunable EFI system that really supports that kind of setup ...

In other words, adding boost is probably not in the future for this truck, at least until someone figures out a way to tune the EFI.

Probably a lot easier, read cheaper, to just swap the engine out with a Chevy V6 and add boost to that. However, in most areas swapping in an engine older than the chassis is illegal, so you'd have to check your local laws first :)

However, if someone did swap a chevy V6, they're essentially just the V8 with two cylinders cut off the back, so all of the accessories and stuff on the front are identical to the bigger LS V8. This also means that universal engine mount kits for the LS work for the V6 too, and would require a minimal amount of fabrication/welding to mount the engine.

I don't know enough about the Toyota to tell you if getting the factory gages to work or not is feasible, but that would be one of the hurdles to overcome ...

Anyways, if you wanted more power/torque you should have bought a different truck probably. That's not exactly what Tacoma's are known for ... but then again, my last truck was an 03 Lightning, so I may just be biased causing me to think people who modify an N/A V6 are a bit silly ... if you want hp/torque, seriously, you're going to want a different truck. The Tacoma is great for many other reasons, but making tons of torque/hp is not one of them and never will be.

Have you looked at the "header" on the new truck?

Yea, that thing, bolted to the side of the head by 4 bolts ... that's your header

I have been reading this forum for the last week before joining and I just don`t understand why all the complaining by some 2016 Tacoma owners, did they not test drive the truck before buying it ?

The V6 does everything that I need it to do and some, if I wanted or needed more power I would have bought a Tundra.

Not when it can't hold 75 mph in a head wind on on the slightest hill. I didn't mean to sound like an asshole.
