Improving frame drainage

I do know that any debris will hold moisture which will help rust to accelerate.

Keep 'em clear of debris. Especially, those of you Wheelin' in Mud.

I wouldn't seal it. I've worked with purged equipment, it is it's own big hassle. If it's required, it's required.

 

Extra "drilled" holes in frame to flush?? Yes, more entry points for water/grime but also better airflow to dry out.

 

The drain holes are currently maybe 1/4 holes, but on the boxed part of the frame, there are massive holes above, which can already allow in larger debris than the drain hole can deal with.

 

I’m not sure that CO does frame inspections. At least I’ve never heard of anyone needing a frame inspection.

 

They don’t, BUT your biggest concern you should be inspecting is the rear shock mounts at the top of the frame

YOU HAVE TO remove the spare tire to inspect.

This is one of the 1st place rust starts because of NO drainage.

My frame had zero rust except for this area so I had to have this shock mount cut out and replace with a different design mount

 

I've never seen mine from up top and never felt around it.

Am i seeing that right, that's it's hollow and open from the top with maybe and maybe not a weep hole?

 

Yup, for my truck this mount is like a 1/2 ice cream cone cut in half and welded to the frame with NO drainage

 

I had the old shock mount cut out and this one welded in,

Now there is no worries for water to be trapped

 

Is the new shock mount from
Safe T Cap ?

 

That seems like a much better situation for the mount

 

I finally have a spare tire wrench to drop my 96 tire I’ll check that. (the 2001 I bought has one that PO didnt loose)

 

They may have changed it in '98, I'm not near mine but that sure doesn't look familiar.

 

Mine came with an anti theft lock,

So check to see if yours needs a special key

 

Reg cab might be different

 

Here in Pa we have a safety if holes were drilled in the frame the state thinks are to big it will fail

Same thing with building an open frame like in days past can`t do it unless you do the whole Special Construction Title .

Then any of these things can change any time.
