I downsized to the lighter rims/tires, from 265/70/R17 to 245/75/R16. Better mileage, better braking and better acceleration, but the biggest things that I noticed is that it tows my light boat trailer much better in selective drive and the transmission does not hunt as much in D going up hills. There are a lot of E rated tires, but there are plenty of SL 245/75R16 tires out there. For most https://www.tirerack.com/tires/Tire...&width=245/&ratio=75&diameter=16&AID=10398365

Stay off the throttle so the VTECH doesn't go, "boom" and kick-in.

15? Are u flooring it ? Any added weight ..different wheels ? What gas are u using . I find using better gas like chevron gets me around 18-20 mpg . Also try to get a bed cover that will take away drag .

    Physics is your friend...
Newton’s first law of motion (and I am paraphrasing here) is an object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion.
Coast up to a stop, and try to time it so that you don’t have to come to a full stop. I average about 22mpg in town doing this.

Here are my tips: work to be first off every light, get to the front at every on ramp, make sure no one ever cuts you off, and use your brakes every chance you get. YMMV

Theres no doubt tires play a big part in fuel economy. Just going to heavier 265/70 16's all terrain tires over the stock 245/75 16 lighter all season's cost me .5 -.75 mpg driving the same roads with the same driving habits.

    Working on that
I notice a slight (but noticeable) improvement when I run non-ethanol, which I tend to do for a variety of reasons. more expensive so in the end if it’s pure economics it may not make a difference to you.

I didn’t read this whole thread but the best way is to tape a raw egg to your gas pedal and never ever break it.

There is no drag without the bed cover. Its a myth. A lot of members actually reported worse mpgs with the tonneau cover.

You should see a slightly better mpgs, since 91 or higher has no ethanol. Its like that here at least anyways. Your engine should run a bit smoother as well.

Bigger tires in the rear and smaller tires in the front, so Ya always driving downhill.

One time I was on the Lost Coast and came across several near-dead and dead parts of red pacific octopus. We found an arm that was still wriggling in the surf and cooked and ate it. Apparently you can get really nasty diseases from this. But I’m FINE.

Yes. Get light wheels with plastic caps.
Fiberglass over your fenders like a hybrid.

    change the drivetrain
lots of options. 8spd auto, hybrid, little motor, diesel, turbo, etc.

remold the body to be aerodynamic
Convert it to a unibody and gut the interior
    Put tiny street tires

make it FWD to reduce parasitic losses
    Gut the interior

    Tacoma drag coefficient is 0.388
you're looking to get 0.29 or better
