In a pinch..

So hello everyone, new guy here, recently purchased a used 2007 Toyota Tacoma TRD off road and am in a little predicament... The original owner had installed what appears to be a Revtek Spacer kit (did a bunch of searches on the kit and it appears everyone in this forum does not like spacer kits, for good reason) but it came with the truck and is what it is. So yesterday i did the regular checks, changed oil to full synthetic, kn filters blah blah blah and discovered the stock rear right bilstein shock was shot... awesome.. so now im in the deciding on what to swap the rear shock for and if i should just bite the bullet now and do some type of full suspension setup and just get it over with. Im from the motorcycle world and never really played with big truck suspensions but im learning the terminology and searching around for different setups. id rate my self as pretty mechanically inclined. Im not going to off road like a crazy man but i probably will feel out some of the dunes down here in sunny FL.

What would the community recommend i do? I know most are going to simply state ditch the revtek lift and do a suspension lift.. but what kit should i get? It would need to include rear shocks at the very least. He put some Cooper Discoverer ATP 285/70/17s on the truck so i know ill need at least 3 inches of lift (what i guess he hoped to achieve with the revtek system).

I was looking at the Bilstein 5100s which seem to fit the bill as far as the rear goes... but all the input i can get i will appreciate.

If your just getting into trucks, get the 5100 rear for now so the truck drives normally. Keep your spacer, save for some icons front and rear.

or should i invest and get a set of these and add front coils down the road?

$50 or so difference id just assume get the fox set and just build a suspension setup by adding the front coils of choice down the road..

 

or fork over the extra cash for these and then just add the bilstein coils later on?

What did the PO do the rear leafs, is there a block between the leafs and the rear axle to level it out? If so you will need to get an extended rear shock, which could be why it blew out in the first place if they are the originals. In the rear, the actual struts don't provide any lift, the leafs do all of the lifting so you may also want to look into new leafs or an add-a-leaf when you replace the shocks if he did blocks in the rear.
