Hey everyone, little bit urgent here caused I'm pressed for time.

So I purchased a take-off set of 3rd gen front coil assemblies from a member on here for my 2nd gen and having a hard time telling which side is which?

For reference they're 3rd gen Sport Hitashi's. Colors seem to be red on one coil and a more pinkish red on the other.

I'm having shop install them in the next hour along with a 1/4" spacer with alignment afterwards. Can anyone tell me which side goes on which?

    Thanks in advance!

Weird, so unlike the 3rd gen offroad Bilsteins (which are side specific), these aren't?

I can say is when i pulled my bilsteins to put on a top plate spacer to level my truck they didnt go back into the same side. It's been close to 2 years and no problems

The red dot is the heavy coil which goes on the driver's side to compensate for the driver's weight and gas tank. They mark the coils for variance at the factory as each one is slightly different due to inconsistencies in the steel manufacturing process.

That being said, I'm completely full of shit and don't actually know if there's a difference, but if you word something the right way and use big words, it sounds believable on the internet.

I'm sure you'll be fine either way.

The coilovers are not side specific. Only the OEM springs are.

I usually fall back to knowing that manufacturers like to see their logos prominently displayed once everything is assembled. From the looks of it, the red dot coil will end up with the Hitachi logo facing outboard if you place it on the driver's side whereas the pink dot will have the logo outboard on the passenger's side, so I'd go with that honestly. I really don't see any reason to overthink it though.

According to this pile of Tacoma’s the red dot would be the driver’s side coil.

So based on some info from another member and from you guys, does this look right?

Red dot on drivers side based on coil installation.

I know OE Pro Foxes are definitely side specific and believe OR Bilsteins were too. I'd call a dealer to make sure these are not side specific.

I upgraded my Sport with Off-road Bilsteins and Springs and clocked them per the service manual vs. the color dots. The manual shows where the bottom spring should face (Clocked) and have had no issues or lean etc.

The foxes are specific because the driver's side is longer to compensate for Taco lean.

The top Fox coilover isn't longer, but it does have more coil preload (which is an effective way to counteract the lean).

50/50 odds good bet! bilsteins red/green dot but hitachi never could get exact answer the newer ones 2018-2019 both coils are same color so who knows. Bottom spring face toward the rear? I recall seeing it on another thread...looking for it.
