I freely admit that electrical stuff is not my strong suit. I know enough for your basic stuff, but modifications of stuff someone more knowledgeable than me designed is somewhere that I always like to get opinions other than my own.

I just bought a Smittybilt X20 10k winch, which comes with a wired/wireless remote. I installed longer cables to relocate the control box to the hood compartment. I like the idea of in cab winch controls, and also being able to control it outside of the truck with the remote.

Is there anything wrong with relocating the switch (to turn on the wireless controller) and the plug in port for the wired controller to the cab by just splicing the wires to make them long enough to come into the cab and securing them in the dash? I'm probably going to mount the control box behind the battery, and then run the controls to the blank switch panels on the driver's side, so they will only be moved a few feet from the control box.

I think it's fine, and I'm making it more difficult than it is, but I'd rather swallow my pride and ask an easy question than give it a go and risk eating the cost of a fucked up winch. Or worse.

    Thanks in advance.

Cut and splice is ok as long as you use proper gauge wire for the distance and current. Depending on the setup you might be able to unplug terminals and rewire with longer wire.

The plugs are soldered onto the back of the plug, so splicing seems like my best option. I will use the same gauge of wire. Thanks for the reply.

    Is yours mounted?

If so, which bumper did you use?

Is it mounted in the usual configuration for now?

It doesn't fit the ARB quite as well as I hoped it would, but it's a pretty big winch, and I can live with how it mounted.
