Do they have the 'Don't sell my data' opt-out thing too?

    Pretty sure that’s common knowledge.
Don’t need a dissertation to tell me.

Yep, pretty standard on new vehicles. My wife's new corolla is way worse than my '15 taco.

Custom, only one ever designed and built interiors, heavily welded frame, all sharp metal turned bed rack and a roof top I made for $75. Power pedal, injen intake system, cat delete, summit racing brake proportioning valve controlled on the fly, slightly adjusted or perhaps unrecognizable ECM, built in under bed storage, high clearance rear built with 1/4" on a 6011 1/8" rod at 120 amps, 360 degrees of led light, a PA and CB, on board air, on board propane (to cook food), on board fridge made from an old red bull fridge found on some guys man cave built into the storage cubby under the back seat, imported tranny and clutch from a good friend over in Europe to replace this aisin junk we get, combined 32 gallons fuel capacity, 18 5 gallons of water storage, built in gun locker under RTT, and all it cost was to hear the wife ramble on about upset neighbors at 2 in the morning every night since I bought that damn truck..
Thank you, kind sir. I knew the drug use would someday pay off haha

I am not absolutely sure, but I don't think insurance companies can get that info in any states. I believe it is only disclosed when there is law enforcement investigation/court order involved requests, and then they have to connect the dots to tie it to an individual and then they have to prove/disprove that the individual in question was operating the vehicle when the data in question was generated. This isn't new stuff. Even crash data isn't disclosed to insurance companies as far as I know, they rely on police report to interpret the cause and responsibility for accidents/collisions/etc.

Is it common knowledge that if you take the memory chip from the wireless charger and read it that you can browse your search history?

I'm certain that it at least has 3G, but I'm pretty sure it has an LTE uplink so the bandwidth available is only limited to how much Toyota is willing to pay for that data, and that is only limited to how much use they are getting out of it plus the amount of money they are getting for selling the aggregated data to third parties.

I know my phone (Samsung Galaxy S8) was collecting data and selling it but some new thing made them legally bound to offer an opt-out which I filed and was granted. They can no longer sell any of my personal data across the whole of their operations. Overtly of course.

I see no reason why a pickup with the features ours have and beyond, would be any different than our cellphones or laptops. Recording devices.

Go to the toyota site and file for any info that they've obtained. I'll post the link for anyone who wants to do it

Think, if there are 100s of thousands of people they are collecting data and selling, even if they are only getting a couple bucks, it's still 100s of thousands of dollars. Though I see your point on upkeep/overhead costs.

That part is an Opt-In 'service', at least as far as the privacy disclosure states so even I'm not all that worried about that one.

Nice post. Too bad we are monitored in almost everything we do today. Between our cars, phones, and other smart devices, it seems like we are always monitored.
