I work in insurance. Particularly Personal Auto.

Toyota uses this data for their own insurance program. You can see the ads for it on the app. You can also see your driving score on their app. For other manufactures, they sell telematics data to a data companies and have them figure out the data to translate into a driving score. For instance, we use a third party vendor that buys the data from manufactures like Hyundai, Honda and others. They compile a score based on driving habits and we use that score to determine the price on an insurance policy.
The customer (you) sign this agreement when you do all the paperwork at the office. When you go to buy an insurance policy, you give them your VIN. We send the VIN to that vendor to see if there is a score that is returned. Right now the data is very limited because this is all new, but this is the future for Auto Insurance.

That is my first truck! No kidding! It was an '83, same color, same style. Wish I still had it. Sigh.

Custom, only one ever designed and built interiors, heavily welded frame, all sharp metal turned bed rack and a roof top I made for $75. Power pedal, injen intake system, cat delete, summit racing brake proportioning valve controlled on the fly, slightly adjusted or perhaps unrecognizable ECM, built in under bed storage, high clearance rear built with 1/4" on a 6011 1/8" rod at 120 amps, 360 degrees of led light, a PA and CB, on board air, on board propane (to cook food), on board fridge made from an old red bull fridge found on some guys man cave built into the storage cubby under the back seat, imported tranny and clutch from a good friend over in Europe to replace this aisin junk we get, combined 32 gallons fuel capacity, 18 5 gallons of water storage, built in gun locker under RTT, and all it cost was to hear the wife ramble on about upset neighbors at 2 in the morning every night since I bought that damn truck..
I actually did find out. PM for details.

Limited is what you've been taught. Remember, the texh we have in the civilian market was used 20 years ago in the military. I used to climb cell towers 10 plus years ago. The tech we installed for certain unnamed companies is what ppl are just learning about now. The reason for the illusion of Limited availability or perhaps knowledge is that other parties are working out algorithms. This concept was used in 2003 when the state dept was sent to Iraq to gather Intel. 19 years ago. Think about that.

Yea, right. Would be nice wouldn't it? Freedom of information act was a great thing... if you can afford it... and hint - nobody can. Even then (REDACTED)... ;)

I'm jk btw... gonna fill out that form lol.

Its limited in the sense that car manufacturers didnt start putting this in models in mass until the late 2010's. Out of all the vehicles on the road that is a very small sample size. Telematics isnt that new. Progressive used to make you plug something into your car to track it. Now state farm has you download an app. Car manufactures saw this and said... why dont we just gather the data ourselves and sell it to data companies. And so they did.

Oh man, I went through that with USAA. I figured "why not, I'll see what this is about". As soon as I saw the requirements and having to always have the app open on my phone, I noped out. Never even drove with it. Brake too hard for a deer? Fault. Accelerate too fast exiting my driveway directly onto a highway? Fault. Just a stupid way to screw drivers out of getting a discount. So hey, fuck em, I lie and every year update that I took a defensive driving course (have not taken one since 2007) lol. Plus all kind of extra options. Never call an insurance company for their rates, do it yourself online. But it was the same with the Toyota app. Had to always be on, always sending location date, and a constant notification bar on my phone. To me, that's the equivalent of someone who never organizes their email box or clears social media notifications. Just a mess and I don't want it on my phone.

But yep. Every last bit of this stuff is sold to someone after so many years. Everything you do online. And good luck using adblockers now days... can't even access most websites with them. I use a VPN to download torrents just for the fact that it hides the data from the IP, making it harder for them to triangulate (no IP is going to those lengths to uncover it) but if someone was really looking, they could find it easily. I use TOR for some browsing occasionally accompanied by a VPN... but it's all still trackable to someone doing the work. I pretty much gave up, now I just pirate torrents and stick to websites and searching for stuff to keep me off the blacklist lol. But back in the day, I pretty much had the Anarchist cookbook memorized.

Or the minimum to meet the legal requirements. That's the saddest part. These companies are basically "free range" with our data.
And tons of money for redacted information. There are tons of reports of the government trying to bankrupt people for requesting information that is supposed to be included in the freedom of information act. When the few that have climbed the legal ladders and paid the government fees get it, everything is redacted. Would be nice if there was full disclosure though, wouldn't it? Too much to ask.
