Custom, only one ever designed and built interiors, heavily welded frame, all sharp metal turned bed rack and a roof top I made for $75. Power pedal, injen intake system, cat delete, summit racing brake proportioning valve controlled on the fly, slightly adjusted or perhaps unrecognizable ECM, built in under bed storage, high clearance rear built with 1/4" on a 6011 1/8" rod at 120 amps, 360 degrees of led light, a PA and CB, on board air, on board propane (to cook food), on board fridge made from an old red bull fridge found on some guys man cave built into the storage cubby under the back seat, imported tranny and clutch from a good friend over in Europe to replace this aisin junk we get, combined 32 gallons fuel capacity, 18 5 gallons of water storage, built in gun locker under RTT, and all it cost was to hear the wife ramble on about upset neighbors at 2 in the morning every night since I bought that damn truck..
I'm gonna get as much bulk aluminum foil from a catering company as I can and make a full size hat for my truck just to post it

    1. Do you have a cellular phone?
    2. Computer?
    3. How about one of those cards from the grocery store?

Everyone is already watching you. Auto makers are late to the party, just trying to catch up. Kinda funny to worry that bluetooth is recording a conversation you are having with a cell tower. Think about that...

A colleague and I went to Riyadh for work. He got a burner Google account so that the Saudi's would not hack his regular one. The difference between Google and Saudis is that one is good at this stuff, the other is not.

Been in the building at NSA twice. Both times the folks there were very eager to claim they were not spying on 'Merica. Yes, yes, they collect your stuff. But there is so very much of it. They don't have the computing power, let alone the personnel to sort through the vast sea of inanities ("lol" "omg") most of us produce. Most books in the library never get read.

The real problem starts when you give someone with this type of power a _reason_ to become interested in you personally, not before. Almost everyone is just not interesting enough to garner much attention, even if they have our data. If they are aggregating up, even a little bit, then it is not personal, literally. Just data.

Then we have folks handing over all their intimate personal details to this dude so he can turn around and sell it to become insanely wealthy. Who do we really have to worry about here?

This is concerning. Give them an inch, they take a mile. Doesn't matter who is of interest or not. It's a way for them to make you of interest.

The sleep system is bad ass though. HMMWV's though... I've never seen a vehicle that could be 3 months old in perfect condition one drill, then next drill need a Circle X to go to the field because it has a Class 2 leak and one of the headlights is out.

    Where? Link?

The T&C I read specifically said it was telemetry and vehicle diagnostic data, along with marketing info from entune, which is sold to third parties.

Telemetry (GPS, accelerometers, yaw sensors, etc) and diagnostics are tied to VIN (or at least the build type, body code, engine code, or axle code of your vehicle) as far as I know. It would be pretty easy to combine VIN, buildout, or GPS to identify quite a lot about who you are.

Not to mention any info that your media management system pulls from your phone when you connect to it. Bluetooth protocols are notorious for being very insecure and not usually safe for keeping information secret.

And who knows what sort of "marketing" profile they are referencing. Let's hope it's aggregate data across the whole market and not some "anonymized" line entry where instead of a name attached to your truck's/ phone's data, it's a number assigned to represent your name. All the data collected on an individual vehicle likely stays together in some fashion under one entry and that's a recipe for identification.

I'm not jumping on the tinfoil sharkfin hat bandwagon yet. It's just obvious that the longer you provide data to a set like this, the easier it is to cross-reference related datasets from other sources to find information that can identify you or your habits.

It's not my job to think of this sort of thing, but if it were, I'd being doing it and making money on it. So whoever's job it is to make money on this sort of data is most definitely collecting as much of it as possible to sell. Toyota and other companies do make money from you as a customer, generally only once when you buy the vehicle. But they can make even more money over time from other companies that want to buy data to power targeted advertising directly at you. And they can keep making money off of you in this way for as long as we provide them data. So, in this case, for as long as you own the vehicle.

I missed a few posts, so here goes ....

I garuntee you +95% of shelf bought AR-15s are higher quality than that Vietnam era junk Westpoint is still using for marksmanship rankings.

I'll mail you a dollar if you do.

I drive DoT trucks here. See it every. Freaking. Day. It's especially bad when we're plowing a salting.... But hey, we have a LOT of leniency when it comes to.... Incidents.... During a snow shift. Who am I to tell you what to do, if you want a 3+ ton plow parked on your car, by all means....

This is why I stopped being paranoid about it and started worrying about other important things, like the next Episode of Boba Fett, the price of tires, my expiring free burrito coupons, the price of ammo, and wether I should use my old Pro4X floor mats as a shoe mat in my closet.

    Don't. Answer. The. Surveys.

Hence govplanet. What a wonderful time waster. Had to stop my brother from almost buying a HMMWV on there... "Dude it's a running Humvee for only $3k!" Yeah.... About that.....

    See "AR-15" above

So I had thought about this with my last vehicle, 2015 suburban. My solution was to make a mold of the shark fin antenna and then cast a cover for it that is Faraday lined and and has a base a bit bigger than the fin with magnets around the edge. Just slap it over your antenna and go. I never got around to actually doing it though.

If there are other hidden antennas then obviously you need more than the shark fin cover, but the concept might work to create a private vehicle when you want it and to just remove the covers when you need GPS or OTA updates.

I could definitely be wrong, but I feel like Thered a solution within that concept for anyone bothered enough to try it.
