So I've been married just over a yr now and I've always known my In laws were going to be nuts. Luckily we live across the country so we dont have to deal with them. But my wife is strong in her Christian beliefs and they will sit around and pick at her and try to get her to question things. It drives me nuts. They all find religion a joke. Which is fine if thats what you believe. But they just decided to celebrate Hanukkah for no reason. None of them are Jewish. They have a Menorah and everything. Posted a ton of pics on FB all having a good time. Personally I find it extremely wierd and offensive. I know they aren't doing it for the sake of respecting a religion. My wife is pretty pissed and other than yeah Ive been telling you they're nuts for yrs, not much else I can say. Just wondering if were the only ones that find this behavior wierd? And further reason to avoid them at all costs.

Wow, not knowing them, it sounds like your in-laws are first rate asshats. I've never heard of someone celebrating another religion's holidays just for shits and grins.

    This ^^^^

OP, most important is to support your wife through this. You have to spend the rest of your life with her, and fortunately not everyday with the in-laws. Today is actually my 18th anniversary, and I have crazy in-laws too. Good thing is my wife agree that her folks are disfunctional, so that makes it easier to support her. It sounds like you are in the same boat.

Thanks guys, I know nobody wants to hear how nuts their own family is but I needed to vent this out and now I know it's not in my head. But yeah this isn't the wierdest thing they have ever done either. If we lived close to them, there is no way we could have stayed together.

Ya, that's a crazy thing, just deciding to celebrate Hanukkah. With my in laws and family, we try to leave politics and religion out of conversations. Pretty much everyone disagrees with something in those topics, so we leave it alone. My mother in-law went alittle crazy with the election on her Facebook page, I'm not on Facebook, but rest of the family just ignored it. Just pay no attention, its not worth it. My in-laws live very close, your lucky when it comes to things like that.

^^^^ This is the most important thing! Believe me, everyone with a dysfunctional family knows it! Just support her and make sure she is okay. Don't waste your energy on the in-laws and try to keep her from getting upset, and she will appreciate it so much more:) Stupid families!!

If you're not part of any religion, you can experiment with any of them. Maybe they were testing the waters. Doubtful, but if they went all out maybe it's legit.

Def not experimenting. The wife's sister and brother openly discuss their views on how they think religions are a joke.

Sounds like they are trying to cause issues as they know it bugs you and the wife. The simple way to handle this is to focus on you and your wife and ignore this behavior. I've become a professional at doing this now, but it took a long time for me to get where I'm at today (about 9 years). You think your in-laws are nuts, well mine are down right psychotic lunatics.

Just remember, you can't fix people so your only solution is to ignore this behavior and not let it bug you. The only other thing you can do besides this is to end your relationship with them all together. If you and your wife let this get under your skin and you question their behavior all it’s going to do cause issues in your own relationship.

Laugh it off, know that they’re nuts and move on with your life because this is all that really matters.

Yeah you're right. I don't think they did this to piss us off, it's just how they are. They really have no consideration for anyone else. When we lived in PA and tried to manage holidays between the families, they never gave a shit about what time my family had dinner or their plans. Don't even get me started on the wedding. UFB! But they just post it all over FB and I saw it, wife was all upset and embarrassed. I told her to ignore it. They feed off stirring up emotions. Remove their food source and they will move on.
