In need of brake pads

    Long story short I’m in need of new brake pads for my 3.4. I just got my truck and as much as I know about motorcycle brakes I’m not as versed on what pads would be best for my Tacoma.

    I will be doing a good bit of off-roading and some street driving as well. I just want the best pads, I don’t mind spending a little extra. Any help would be awesome!

    It is not just the pads it is the complete Front Brakes Rotors Pads and Calipers.

    Lots of people do the Tundra Brake Upgrade.

    I like buying local not having to wait for parts being shipped and being able to inspect the parts while the delivery driver waits

    Now I pretty much Use Toyota and Napa ultra premium line

    Toyota Japan uses Akebono as OEM. I'd try some of their high end pads and see how they work before looking at a Tundra brakes upgrade.

    I wouldn't say that I have tried EVERY brake pad over the years, but I will say that I've tried many. I used to live in the mountains, and the pads would last around a year and 1.5, and the rotors would need to be turned somewhere in the middle of the life span of the pads. I tried all sorts of various brands/combos- didn't matter, so I ended up just getting the bottom of the barrel from Autozone or whatever shop was closest. Lately though, I drive on the freeway more, and those budget pads didn't provide as much longevity. I've currently got a set of Akebono Ultra Premium Ceramic (ACT436) from Amazon, and they have been a nice improvement without too much additional cost.

    Basically OEM pads but cheaper than buying from the dealer parts counter, and you get new shims.

    Akebono pads have less aggressive initial bite than OEM, so you'll have to be on the pedal harder.
    Hawk HPS and Centric Posi-Quiet experienced severe rusting of the backing plates after just a couple of winters on my Subaru.

    I’ve heard nothing but good about Akebono
    A lot of the 2nd Gen guys run Advics. They also seem to like them a lot.

    I used the best house brand AdvancedAuto had in stock.
    They were the platinum grade it think. So far so good. Got almost 70k on them now.
    (But I drive a 2nd Gen)

    I just put in some Brembo pads for about 500 miles and they stop so much better than the stock pads. I did the rotors at the same time. I paid like $40 on rockauto for the pads.

    Just did Stoptech brakes all the way around on the wifes Honda HRV. We did the street premium, she puts a ton on miles on her car. Very nice upgrade from stock. Stoptech is Centric, btw, but their upgrade line.

    I second the stoptech(rotors)Or just do the tundra upgrade. Stock brakes are always lacking. I’ve currently switched to hawk brand pads.Great results, super dusty.Just a heads up you don’t need any drilled rotors. Less mass from a rotor is never a good thing
