In the last 2 years, have prices on the Tacoma traditionally been lower in Q4?

Conventional wisdom says buy a car after Labor day. I was curious to hear if the Tacoma's have followed the same price drop path over the last few years. Thanks.

I started looking for my Tacoma in Q3 of last year and didn't see any price drops, especially since there were no large numbers of leftover '13's when the little changed '14's were introduced. Toyota always has a big year end sales push, but the emphasis Q4 of last year was on the Tundras which were new and more profitable. Dealers would love to have more Tacomas to sell. I lucked out in that mine had been kicked around a couple of dealers for three months before I found it and that coincided with their year-end push. I got what I feel was as good a deal as I could.

I doubt the sticker price changes, but each individual dealer seems to be willing to negotiate more. But I don't have any data to back it haha

it seems reasonable that the current years vehicles would be discounted as the next years would debut.

Last year's Tacoma's were not discounted from what I could see. The Tundra yes, also came with 0%, but not the Tacoma. Anyone have any data beyond that? I only started watching prices mid-last year. TY.

You could look at the "What did you pay" threads and get some data. Sometimes it is hard to tell though because people don't post in the same format.

But, from what I have seen, it if there is much difference, it doesn't seem signficant.

Bought my truck in October last year and they had no deals going on. Haggled a bunch and got next to nothing taken off on the claim that the demand for the trucks is high and margins are tight. A week later I bought the wife a Camry Hybrid and got $2k off the sticker and 0% financing with out haggling at all.

Yes, the price drops. In my case, the difference on two similarly equipped trucks was less than $2000. I decided the savings wasn't worth it, and went with the newer model.

... I also was able to get my choice in colour, and took delivery with 5mi on the odometer.

What about the 3rd gen Tacoma coming out? Wont that hit prices even further for the 2014 models?

Just depends on the dealer really. Some dealers will give you a small discount, others will not give you anything extra on a leftover. None of them are going to give you the large discounts on left overs that other manufacturers are willing to give though from what I can tell.

When I bought my brand new 2013 in Q4 of 2012; A dealer here in PA kept trying to sell me a less equipped left over 12' in a different color than I wanted for a higher price, compared to what I ended up paying for ordering a brand new 13 that was more equipped in the color I wanted from a different dealer.

That first dealer told me that Toyota doesn't overproduce the Tacoma, therefore they are in high demand and they don't need to discount last years models like most other manufacturers. This same idiot told me that the all weather flooring option I currently have wasn't an option, and that custom ordering a Tacoma in general wasn't an option. I wonder how he felt when I sent a long email including pics to that dealer's sales department after I took delivery of my custom ordered truck that he said was impossible to order or didn't exist.

    Do dents and scratches count?
I got a really good deal on a 14' in Q4 last year. I think it depends on the dealer. And if they are trying to move a large volume or make as much profit as possible per vehicle.

How much off of sticker price was that 13' you were comparing though? $4000 is a lot off of a leftover Tacoma.

I spoke with 5 local dealerships in October 2012. None of them were willing to give me more than $500 off on a leftover 12' with same configuration, options, and color as a 13'. I'm thinking your comparing the negotiated final price of your 12' against full sticker MSRP on a 13'.

When and IF a 3rd generation comes out it may hit prices but since there wont be a 3rd gen until at least the 2016 model year, it won't impact the 2014s new from lot.

Of course, if the 3rd gen sucks then there may be a bump for the late 2nd gens.

I'm predicting lower Tacoma 2nd gen prices towards the end of this year. I did more research on this. The auto industry as a whole has been channel stuffing, and with the next gen model coming out, we should see some nice prices towards year end.

Only problem is you need to look at the Tacoma's specific days supply/days to turn data.

Industry "ideal" is somewhere near 60 days supply.

Midsize pickups avg is currently somewhere near 46, with Tacoma even lower around 37.

So it would appear that Toyota, at least with the Tacoma is not "channel stuffing" as you put it. They seem to be selling every one that they make. Yes, people have said sales are down for the year, but Toyota has shifted a lot of the production in San Antonio to the Tundra to take advantage of the demand there with the mild refresh.

Sales prices for Tacoma will probably be good around September as part of the Model Year selldown of the 2014's, and then December is typically the largest for the industry overall, and so you could see a push there. But Toyota has generally done little to no incentive support on the Tacoma. Maybe once the Colorado and Canyon launch this fall we could see some change there, but probably nothing dramatic.

Yup, 2015 trd pro series was at a recent auto, and it was not a new gen. Maybe for 2016, but people have been speculating since 2010 and so far everyone has been wrong.
