Hello. Dipping my fender flares. Currently have 6 coats on. Good coverage but I'm having trouble getting the sheen uniform. I have gathered from reading the dip thread that about a 4-5" away wet coat offers the best finish. I'm doing my best to keep can at an equal distance but am still having slightly uneven results. Do I need more coats? Will a couple of coats of glossifier even things out or do I just need more skill?

If it's just a sheen issue I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you have true texture differences there's not much you can do to save it.

I wouldn't worry too much unless you keep your truck immaculately clean all the time. The weathering/dirt process will cause some changes to the dip's appearance anyway.

I would let it dry completely. Once it dry's it will be uniform.

I can't attest to the results of the glossifier but I did my grille with 8 coats and the finish was quite even. I sprayed 8-10" away, light coats, waited 20 minutes between coats and each coat was sprayed at alternating angles.

Thanks guys. I've had success in the past with dip. Patience is not my virtue tho. I'll give it some time.

Humidity in VA can really screw up dip applications as well.

well shaken for sure. I don't have splatter or excessive texture so I think technique is at least adequate. I have been applying every 20 mins. I haven't let it sit for more than that. It is in the final dry time now so hoping it'll come out even. It really didn't look horrible between coats but at close inspection it caused me some concern.

The real solution is to not use plastidip :gossip:

You'll be fine.... apply at least 2 glossifier coats ...!!~ If you want it to look a little better, in a few days....Turtle Paste wax it...!!

Have had this happen to me as well before it is dried completely, I would just let it settle even have had some pretty bad build up areas that ended up not showing hardly at all after it dries.

Glossifier I have only used once and I feel like it ruined the wheels I did, maybe just me as I've seen much better results from others.

As far as humidity goes I doubt that is the cause as I live in FL and don't have any issues.

That made me smile. I do almost agree. I think it's cheap way to safely adjust a truck to your liking. I have had good results. I spent $30. Gotta be cheaper than OR flares and I can always go back.

In my opinion an improvement. It did even out on it's own as it dried.

Looks good! congrats. It can be a great option, it's just not quite as long term as I would like. Good way to test the waters with a color though.
