Hello all, I just got back from the dealership, where I put cash down on a new T4R Off Road Premium. I'm trading in my 2017 Taco for it. The manager told me that my 4Runner is sitting on the ship, likely in the Port of Long Beach, where it is listed as "vessel arrived" three days ago, on June 6th. They are quoting me 3 to 5 weeks for the estimated arrival at the dealership. That seems excessively long to me, but I have no idea how these things all work. Does anyone know how long it's been taking in 2022 for vehicles to clear customs and get to dealerships? My dealer is in Denver, if it matters.

Also, I've tried to find a way of locating where the vehicle is in the process by VIN. I know some manufacturers have that feature, but I can't find anything for Toyota. Am I out of luck in that regard?

    Thanks in advance.

Do you mind if I ask what you paid? Minus taxes? Curious if prices are coming down at all, heard market has slowed a little bit.

I’d be very happy with 2 weeks. I can’t wrap my head around how it takes 3-5 weeks for it to get taken off a ship that supposedly docked on June 6th…

I don’t mind at all. I paid the MSRP of $46,642, and it’s coming with two options they could not remove, the clear plate for $899, and the tinted windows for $349, which brought the total to $47,890 before taxes and dealer handling fees. And it’s the TRD Off Road Premium, with running boards (which I’m having them remove), and no moonroof. In other words, no markup, but no discounts either.

I haven’t heard anything about the market slowing…out of 6 dealerships in the Colorado Springs/ Denver area, there is exactly ONE 4Runner in stock, a white SR5. Every dealership has between 40-60 person waiting lists for 4Runners. The only ORP that was even in transit (out of six dealerships) was the one I snagged. Someone else was on the waitlist for it first, but that person didn’t have a trade in and I did, so they sold it to me instead.

Yeah that sounds about right, ours is just an OR we called around in all the surrounding states from CO everytime an allocation came in and we snagged one in Cheyenne. They had a few options got one removed but had a couple BS add ons that we couldn’t removed like appearance shield and theft patrol. Came in around 46 and some change. Yeah when I would find one I had about 15 minutes to make up my mind before someone else snagged it. Most were already reserved. Not sure why it takes so long to get from port to dealer though, we were anxious during that period lol

Do you remember how long yours actually took to clear customs and get to you? It might give me some sort of a ballpark. As for BS add-ons, there is no way I would have paid $900 for a clear coat on the hood, if it had been up to me. lol I was able to get them to remove the theft protection, appearance protection, and windshield protection. Coming from California, it didn't dawn on me until later that living in a state like Colorado, windshield protection might have been worth it.

maybe an additional week? I got the update once it was en transit and it was about 2 weeks from then. I guess it takes them a minute to get unloaded and out of port. Yeah I bought a 3m film and did it myself was still about $560 but I wish I had done it in my Tacoma years ago. Pulled the trigger on that immediately. I’m glad I didn’t pay any market adjustment fee, most dealer pulled that crap and it was anywhere from 5-7.5k thrown right on top. Then they tried to BS me and say they are the only ones getting 4Runners.

Thanks, that helps. When they first told me about it as I was driving to Denver, they estimated 2 weeks for me to get it. Then when we started filling out paperwork is when he corrected himself, and said the new estimate was 3-5 weeks, even though the ship had "definitely" docked on June 6th. I'm really hoping it's closer to the 2-3 week mark. 4 and 5 weeks from now I'm going to be super busy and out of town for most of it.

Thanks! Yeah, a few. I have the parts guy at the dealership working on ordering a set of BGF KM2 255/80R17's for it, but I think that instead I may see if they're willing to let me swap out the wheels and tires for my 17 Taco trade-in. They would put the 4Runner 17's and new tires on my Taco, and I'd put my 16" rims and the BFG KM3 255/85R16's on my new 4Runner. Hopefully they'll go along with it, since it would save me $1300ish.

I'm also debating between a front bumper or a roof rack. For roof racks, I'd probably go with the Gobi Ranger, since I like the style and Gobi is close enough I can pick it up in person. I still haven't decided which bumper I'd go with, I know for a fact I want aluminum, but they all have crazy prices and crazy lead times. And I don't want to do the cutting and install myself. It would either be one or the other, not both, so I've got some deciding to do.

As far as the most useful stuff (haha), since the primary purpose in getting it is because my dog and I go everywhere together, I ordered a set of the "canvasback" cargo liners, as well as a Weathertech cargo liner to go on top of it for the very back. I also ordered one of the nice Wavian 20L jerry cans, and a Specter 5 gallon water can. Those will both go on the rack, along with a large pelican case or two (I already own about 6 of them lol). Hmm...as I type this, it's sounding more and more like I should get the rack instead of the bumper.

Nice! We replaced wheels immediately with BF Goodrich KO2s and remained stock size. Did the paint protection along with seat covers and mats for the dogs as well. Ordered some T-slot cross bars to use with factory roof rails. Added some rock sliders for protection and ease of adding gear to roof, a control panel with auxiliary lights (slowing installing one area at a time) and last will be a mid grade lift for some
Improved performance on and off road. Daily driver for the wife so we don’t want/need anything crazy. Considering the bilstein 6112/5160 set up. We off-road a bit but usually just to get to “high altitude” trailheads and hunting etc or Forest service roads. We don’t rock crawl or anything.

Your off-roading sounds very similar to mine, mostly for the "I wonder where that road goes", as opposed to "wheeling". I've always been super intimidated by lifts. I've never done one on a vehicle yet. That's not to say I never will, but my preference has always been just to see what the largest tires I could go with while remaining stock suspension height (and as you can tell, I like tall skinny's). Lights would be awesome, as well as sliders. After this initial batch of stuff I buy, I'm going to have to take it easy for a while, my money will need to go elsewhere. But down the road, I'd love to get it more tricked out.

Yeah sounds like it. I have been that way too. After doing some more in depth research and especially after trying a friends out off road, I noticed a significant difference in the off road performance. I’ve also found myself a few times having trouble getting through significant Ruts where some extra down travel would have helped. I’ve been quite impressed how far I’ve gotten my 2nd gen Tacoma off road just stock with KO2’s. Little extra help in some areas seems like it’s worth it for what we do. Especially when deep down a trail where there is no one else and might not get help lol

I’m on the east coast but my 4Runner just arrived at the dealer. It took 23 days from when it arrived at port to being prepped and delivered to dealer.

Congrats! I may not be too far behind you. I called the dealership today and the guy said the status showed, "In transit, 0620 port railhead Henderson". That's all super cryptic, and he said he could only make guesses as to what it meant. We both figured 0620 was the date, and there are two Hendersons, one in Nevada, which is on the way to me from Long Beach, and Henderson, Colorado, which is just north of Denver (where I'm buying it), and has a "Union Pacific Automobile unloading center". So in theory, it could be scheduled to arrive in Denver two days from now, which would be under two weeks from when it arrived in port on June 6th. Or, it's possible the note means it leaves the port, to head to Henderson, on the 20th. At this point it's all just guesswork. On the 21st I should have a better idea. Haha:rofl:
