Hey All. I bought a used 2016 SR5 and the traffic maps don't display the area I'm driving in when I bring them up. Are these maps downloaded at the dealer where the truck is originally purchased or something?:notsure:

Any Toyota dealer should be able to deal with it effectivly.

Do you mean the maps, or the traffic data?
Maps are updatable, but it’s not worth it, as they are usually a few years out of date from the date you purtchase them.
The traffic comes from HD radio feed, that’s just dependent on the area you live in as to if they have the appropriate service. Again, it’s usually hours out of date compared to your phone.

The maps. They don't even show the city I'm driving in.

The maps are loaded on an SD card that plugs into the entune system. Toyota usually comes out with an update once a year but as mentioned you'll have to pay for it, about $160 if you install it or more if the dealer does it. You can check the version of your map card by popping it out, for a 2016 it's probably 0e183. I think the latest version is 0e185 but you can get 0e184 pretty cheap on eBay. In any case there's no guarantee the new maps will fix your problem. Where the heck do you live? I know the maps are missing some newer streets but this is the first I've heard of them missing a whole city.

That tells me the GPS system in the vehicle isn't working.

For sure. A big part of why I passed on spending the extra $$ for Nav when I bought my last vehicle was because of that. For $100 my dash-mounted Garmin works just fine, and the updates are free.

And if you travel by plane and rent a car, you can take it with you to use.

Or if you travel in a friend's vehicle who doesnt have one.

Handy for that, too. We just got back from a trip out to Utah where the Garmin more than paid for itself, since to turn the GPS on in the rental car would have been $20 a day and we had it for 10 days.

Thats highway robbery. It'd be much cheaper to buy a GPS out there, use it, and throw it away when you were done.

OP I would get it fixed as that shouldn't happen but I'll burst the bubble now.

The nav system in these trucks blow and the traffic data is even worse. Mount your phone and use google maps IMO.

All great tips. On trips I do use my phone and the Waze app. I'm just trying to figure out why I'm driving around the Killeen/Copperas Cove TX area and my traffic map displays Waco. I'm 70 freaking miles from Waco. Sounds like maybe I'd be better off to just forget it though. Thanks for all the input. Y'all ROCK!:taco:

Again, it's because your truck's GPS isn't working. It could be a loose cable on one end or the other.

And no, I don't know where it's located.
