As far as I know, some of the manuals are acting this way too.

I only have around 1.5k only in my truck which manual trans... I had automatic before and it is a complete different truck.

The power is always there above 2.5rpms.

I haven’t experienced any sluggishness.. hope it keeps like that...

Just so you know Ovtune is trying to fix this on version 2.0, but you dont need it. What you are describing is a normal behavior of this car. Oh I meant Truck. Mine did this too. Some days drive good, some day drive like crap. This happens with same gas from same station and every other station. Ect did help but it drive like crap.

I feel so fortunate every time I read posts like these with another complaint about some quirk the truck has. My truck just doesn’t do any of this stuff.

I know people must think I’m either lying or crazy but my truck runs great. The trans is smooth and it has plenty of power and speed. I mean it’s not a Maserati, it’s a truck, but it runs as a truck should.

Should’ve bought a lottery ticket the day I bought the truck...

Not saying it doesn’t exist but this thread is the first time I’ve ever heard of this issue.

I'm not talking about the shifting issue some experience. It's really more a throttle issue. In other words, the problem manifests BEFORE it shifts.

Mine runs great too. However, there are times, probably not 50% but I haven't been keeping a log, when something seems different. Pretty sure I'm not crazy, but then that's probably the first sign of being crazy so who knows.

Have you done the TSB on it?

Again, just lucky I guess but my truck is the same great truck I bought. I read a lot here about how it “learns” your driving habits and changes as time goes by. I can honestly say, mine is exactly the same as the day I drove it off the lot.

It’s no slower or faster, it shifts the same way. It drives smooth and does whatever I ask of it. No complaints at all...

Maybe I bought a unicorn. At least that’s how I feel sometimes reading some of these posts.

I kind of wonder if all the craziness with uncontrolled acceleration on other vehicles has led toyota to be super super careful about how they handle drive-by-wire throttle, which may have led to it being overly cautious.

Someone send me a 3rd gen and I'll test it out :D Till then, I'll just enjoy the simplicity of my cable actuated machine.

I get the dead throttle mostly when going down hill and then having to brake going around a corner. Go to get back into the gas and nothing..... must push almost to the floor to get it respond and if you don't let off quickly enough, it kicks into gear like a mule.

Pretty sure it's not me. It's a noticeable change. It's just not easy to describe beyond what I've said. It may be similar to the hesitation or "stumble" problem that was often reported and a TSB released to address. That TSB didn't do much for me and not sure it was exactly the same issue anyway.

Are you sure youre not getting hop-ons on the sluggish days? Occasionally you'll get some hop-ons.

I have no proof and can’t cite any of the following but I believe it with all my heart based on personal experience with friends trucks and my own. I don’t think Toyota got their shit together with the 3rd gens until the late 18’s and even the 19’s. I bought my ‘19 ORSB in February, as stated, no issues at all. It seems like most of these weird inconsistent reports always come with the earlier models. Not so much the ‘19’s.

I hope you get your issues worked out. Hold their feet to the fire till they do!
