My thoughts on it are.... since both plants (baha and texas) are now almost fully automated assembly lines. The machines get out of calibration and by the time they pull a truck off the line for quality control check 50 to 100 trucks have been assembled before and after the truck pulled. Issues aren't with every truck or designated plant.... but they both have the same machines.

Could be. Maybe they’ve worked out the bugs or like Jay says, it’s a matter of QC. I just feel thankful I don’t have any issues and hope for the best they’ll take care of you guys who do...

OP, thanks for posting. I too have the same issues. I also have a hard time describing it, but I think you've done a good job. it's like my truck is human and has "good" days and bad days, with no mechical explaination. I have a 2016 with all the latest ECU TSBs. My inconsistencies aren't 50% of the time though, maybe more like 20%. I feel like it's worthless to try to explain this to the dealer.

I have slight issue with those on this thread that say that's "normal". It might be "common", but it's not normal.

My 2011 acts like this too. I think it is normal, and due to the ECU adjusting for driving conditions. What I've noticed is that if I drive locally, short trips, light throttle, and then go up in the mountains, I start to wonder if I'm going to make it up the mountain. If I hammer on it good a few time before I hit the mountain, it pulls much harder. Mine is a 5 spd manual, so I think it's in the engine control software. When it's in that "lazy mode" even going back to 3rd gear doesn't help much on a hard pull. I also had an '07 auto, and it acted just as crazy. Just my observations, and opinions.

I don’t know man. That doesn’t sound normal to me. Matter of fact, back in the day we’d be checking the fuel filter and pump after that...

Both of my trucks did this from day one, both were new, not used. Fuel filter check isn't easy, it's in the tank module, with the fuel pump. Since it's been that way from new, I can't see it being the filter, or pump, on 2 different trucks. However, I could be wrong. Newer vehicles seem to be wacky in general. I'm not sure I'd ever want another late model vehicle. Auto trans seems to be even worse...

A lot of conspiracy theorists here o_O

OP- have you done any maintenance since it has 40k on the clock? Start with the basics... Air filter, clean mass air flow sensor, clean throttle body. Give it a good kick in the ass every once in a while.

I brefied through this thread and no one even mentions maintenance, only the same old shit spelled out and over again lol

Yes, even with an OVTune, mine has it's moments. It's definitely improved from stock, but there are days I consider getting rid of the fucking thing.

Every vehicle I've owned feels weakest in heat and high humidity. There's less o2 in the air and the ac is not as effecient and works harder. If the engine gets heat soaked things get even worse.

Had my MT for a bit over a year now, 16k km.
Same here, luckily i dont experience any hesitation, sluggishness. When i punch it, it goes right away, even at low rpms. Its actually very quick for what it is. It same everyday, the only time i notice difference is when i use AC, then its kinda sluggish. I use ethanol free gas, maybe it makes a difference? :notsure:

    MT FTW.

I've done all the scheduled maintenance. Not sure if that ever involved a new air filter, but I think something like that would show more consistently. The issue doesn't manifest that often. I said 50% but in reality it's much less. Or maybe more precise to say that it's most noticeable only once in a while but kind of iffy a bit more often. I'll try and bring up these suggestions next time I'm in for service.

The symptoms you experience are very similar to what I experienced before I replaced my crankshaft position sensor. truck would almost act like it had gotten some bad gas (on the same tank as it ran fine before). I also noticed inconsistency in my power steering where it would sometimes be a lot heavier to turn the wheel when it was running poorly. Took it in for service, could not replicate, yada yada. I mentioned the CPS/CKP sensor and they just shrugged and said my '17 wasn't part of the recall. Bullshit. I replaced that sensor on my own dime and this particular problem has not returned more than 2 years later.

Whether that's your problem or not, no clue - but it's worth checking out.

I almost always fill up at Sinclair and pretty sure that's top tier.

    Thanks. I'll look into that.

If it is that sensor, you're unlikely to get a diagnosis from the dealer... especially since it's inconsistent and its as likely to run fine when they have it as not. I had mine in multiple times for this kind of inconsistent drivability... ultimately the part is $100 and it's a 10 min job max, no need to even lift the truck to replace it.

My 19 has the exact Jekyll and Hyde personality OP describes so what ever the issue is, I don’t think it’s been worked out yet. Still just a luck of the draw I think.
