The physics are solid; my question is relative to legal loading. If the GVW is exceeded in the bed and then one has an accident, will you legally be under the maximum loading if you use such a dolly?

I wondered this too. In the eyes of the law I figured an overloaded truck is still an overloaded truck.

I know they do stuff like this for commercial vehicles but that's a whole seperate set of laws. You can't just make a tri-axle Tacoma and call it good I don't think.

The physics work for sure but the logistics don't. Pulling a trailer to avoid pulling a trailer just doesn't work for me. Ha.

Pay to rent this thing from HomeDepot, or pay HD to deliver your too heavy for your truck's load?

Or you could buy a heavier truck. Which until recently unless you option them up, cost less than a 1/2 ton.

It's a strange concept. I wonder if you hooked one up to a BEV truck that is loaded, if you could increase the range of the battery.

It's a trailer. Not magic. I'm not a physics expert but I'd assume that just the resistance of the third axle would decrease mileage.

Or, just rent a bigger truck from HD, drive it like a rental, and keep your Taco safe?

You are not increasing your payload. You are transferring some weight to the trailer. Same principle as some of the mega-hauler trucks. Not sure how much weight it would transfer, but it seems like a good idea. Not sure it is cost effective though. If I've got to pull a trailer anyway, I'd just as soon pull a trailer and put all of the load on the trailer.

He could have put that second pallet of cement on regular trailer. Seems to me to be much simpler.
    Keep it simple.

Particularly when the non-trailer costs $5-7k. I guess it'd be easier to park it, but for that amount might as well get a real trailer.

"...The estimated cost will be between $5000 to $7000 CAD..."

Or get airbags and a trailer for less than half that.

I liked that one of their target markets were truck-campers.

"Forget a camper trailer... Overload your truck and pull this little trailer instead"

Reminds me of those infomercials where people can't do the basic of tasks properly.

I was really thinking about braking, I feel like someone is going to overload their truck and then wear down their pads/rotors to the point they aren't stopping.

It’s clever for sure. Id like to see what 2000lbs of gravel feels like before and after the device.

Extremely impractical as well. I can’t think of any scenario where this makes sense. If you have a hitch, you have a choice for a trailer that can hold 5000lbs of soil. Why put it in the bed?
