I came here to read about exhaust related MPG gains lol.

OP, I’d stick to the stock air filter. I’ve read a lot of very negative consequences including expensive engine damage as a result of using many of the offered aftermarket filters.

X2. I work for a big bureaucratic manufacturer of vehicles. I don't need to come here and read about people speculating why decisions were made behind closed doors lol. Anywho...

OP, I'm glad you saw MPG gains. I'm considering replacing my rusting original muffler with this same one. Do you get any drone or annoying exhaust notes in the cabin?

I added an MBRP cat back and k&n probably a year ago.
Not loud, no drone, cut it after spare tire for preference. Sounds great to me, really nice mellow rumble tone at idle and fine at cruising speeds.

I have always been an advocate for better air flow in vehicles, and the aftermarket provides that. Probably etched in my brain from owning a few turbo VW's.
Feels a little more responsive than the stock setup but who knows.

I have no scientific evidence of mpg savings. I toss 20 in the tank and drive responsibly when im not in the fun zone. If i make it 5-7 days without re-filling, I consider that a weekly win.

makes me want to fill her up and see what i actually get per tank. I haven't done that since the first week i owned her

Thank You! Im certainly happy about it as well :) As for drone or annoying exhaust notes...The Borla Pro XS muffler is without a doubt a lot louder than stock, on my Tacoma at least. Personally, I really like the way it sounds, moreso than stock for sure. But I wouldn't say there is much drone at all actually.

When driving around town and your RPMs are under 2 thousand mostly, its a very nice grumble and growl, mostly subtle and not too loud at all, but the difference is that you can actually hear the exhaust and the differences in RPM as you drive. Now for on the highway, if you put your foot down to pass someone or significantly accelerate for whatever reason, you will definitely hear it in the cabin, it gets pretty loud if you are accelerating high above 2 thousand RPM, but once you "plane off" so to speak, and upshift back into OD, it calms down, gets a lot quieter and is very reasonable. No drone at all if you are cruising in overdrive.

Its a great muffler and I would definitely recommend as Ive seen considerable increase in mileage. Good luck!!

Awesome! Im glad to see other people have done this too and enjoy it. MBRP was my second choice actually but I went with Borla in the end. If you can, run the numbers if you fill up and see what sort of mileage you get, makes for some fun experimentation lol.

19.4 is pretty good. I get almost 19 and haven’t done anything except Michelin defenders.

Thanks for your input! I have heard similar stories, and have done a little bit of reading about that, but from my understanding, the air filters that cause issues are usually the 'oiled' filters. Apparently the oils they put on the filters can end up clogging/gunking up the Mass Airflow Sensor and could cause serious issues. But, the one I mentioned is dry and oil free and as far as I know is just capable of letting more air pass through. Ever heard anything like that? I definitely want to avoid causing any internal problems with my engine for sure though so if anyone has any more info on this I'd appreciate your input.

Thats really cool because I've been doing some research on tires for when I might need to replace them, and Michelin Defenders seem like probably one of the best choices. Right now im running Bridgestone Dueler HT IIs, that came with the truck and I havent noticed anything negative, they just look a little boring haha. If you have any interest, a cat back system or performance muffler might give you a little mpg boost.

I dont know of any manufacturer that puts Borla exhaust stock on their vehicles. And that is either because its too expensive, or too loud. Its really that simple. Borla is a high performance exhaust manufacturer and they claim their technology can increase mpg and HP slightly. I took the bait, ran the tests and turns out that they are probably not lying! Ive got my own proof, so why dont you actually try it on your truck first before trying to shut others down?

Yep, But if I did that, I would have to whip out the hack saw. I’m not at that point yet. HaHa

Awesome Dude. Its amazing what a better exhaust can do. URD seems like a really cool company Ive been meaning to check their stuff out more.

I actually just read a post the other day about someone who’d had trouble with his AFE filter. I don’t remember exactly what is was - I think lots of dust getting past it or the glue joint failing at the gasket or something.

But, I literally just finished up some work on my truck. One thing I did was replace the air filter. I’d last inspected it 5k miles ago so I took a peak. I noticed lots of dust on the filtered side of my air box and noticed two leaks. One of them was slight, at the front inside corner of where the top and bottom of the filter box come together. The other was the drain hole at the bottom near one of the mounting bolts. I actually just posted a thread about it:

Edit: I stand corrected about my dusty air box. I had the filtered and non filtered sides mixed up. But I did read about someone having problems with poor filtration with the AFE.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...e-of-air-box-likely-due-to-drain-hole.577839/

I’m going to thread a small valve cover type breather filter into this hole, from the outside of the box to see if that helps.

A perfect example of how a little knowledge is worse than none at all. You are telling me you are smarter than all these engineers that develop cars for a living and you even threw in "super cars are not aerodynamic underneath" must of went to automotive school on facebook lol

where is the scientific proof from your statements and links to it?
Also why do most threads deviate so far away from the original post? it was about the exhaust pipes.

Check out URD's exhaust systems. I am planning on getting them
