I hope the new Ranger will be offered in extended cab configurations along with Manual Trans option.

I never complained about ford, and did you get the reason I went to the Dodge dealership.

Till gas prices blossom. Especially when it presses $4 per again.

Then all the short minded 'muricans that are out financing 6 year $25k notes on sub 20 mpg vehicles will panic and try to ditch them.

Thanks for clarification, but again I did not bad mouth ford, I didn't waste my time discussing them. And again I went to Dodge dealership to look at the Jeeps.

Yes, please do that again and have another 2008 esq stock market/housing bubble crash. Last time that happened I flew down to Minneapolis to pick up a 2 month old Xtrerra for less than 1/2 of what I would have paid for up here. :D:thumbsup::bananadead:

Sold it 2 years / 45,000 miles later for $5k for what I paid for it. :D

People slag me for not getting a "real" truck. I don't need a fullsize or a double cab. So my single cab 2wd works, and if that happens I'll enjoy my 22-24mpg.

My 2006 Colorado was a 4 banger and 4wd, that pig barely got 16mpg from brand new to 80k miles.

Assuming $4 per gallon, which is currently over a $1.15 more than my high gas price area of Socal:

Lets say you drive 15,000 miles per year. If you use 23 mpg (I'm assuming that is your average?), you'd spend roughly $2608 per year on gas. For a 2wd, single cab.

My 4wd, TRD OFFROAD, double cab, manual transmission gets an average of 19 mpg (disclaimer: display says it, I use my vehicle as a daily driver so 60 miles of highway each work day), which assuming 15,000 miles per year gives roughly $3158 per year on gas.

That is a difference of $550 per YEAR.

I'm not going to get into "real" truck vs. not "real" truck because that is just a nut flexing argument, but gas money should never be in the argument for trucks. Especially the same make/model. If one can afford a 25-35k vehicle, $550 per year in gas is null.

The real basis is what you need and initial cost. If you only need a 2wd single cab great, you didn't spend the extra money up front for something you dont need. But people with 4wd double cabs aren't going to be hurting much more than any other Tacoma owner if gas prices go through the roof....

You are correct Aero but most people don't do the gas math like that. I know several guys at work who drive hybrids or electrics. They are very proud of the fuel savings but don't realize that the extra purchase price of the vehicles completely negates the savings. About the time they finally break even the $10,000 battery will need to be replaced.

Even thought I know the math I am still affected psychologically; when gas is under $2 I am happy and when it isn't I get irritated. I won't be dumping my truck though if it goes up a buck or two. But I also can afford the truck; I think many people get suckered into financing deals they cannot afford. Of course they need to take some responsibility for their actions but at the same time it is predatory behavior and unethical.

This is true, or perhaps one's situation changes and requires them to drive more.

And agreed on the financing, this is why I got so angry about the housing market collapse
