I have a 2022 Tacoma Sport with stock suspension, wheels, tires, the works. I have to buy new tires in a month or two and want to move to a more aggressive and slightly larger tire. Stock dimensions are 265/65/R17 and I'm looking at 265/70/R17 tires to increase the diameter by approximately 1". For that more aggressive look, I'd also like to get to roughly a 0mm tire offset.

Will these combined modifications lead to the tires rubbing on the mud flaps or wheel wells? Similarly, will these modifications lead to any major changes in the trucks performance?

    Hey Bob, welcome aboard.

This will give you 1/2" lift, not the full inch. If you want the full inch lift, you need 33 pizza cutters. (255/80/17). Neither of these options will not rub.

It's only when you change rims with different offset, that will lead to rubbing, or a need to remove your mudflaps.

You may kiss the factory mud flaps just a wee bit. But with increasing offset i would get a wider mud flap regardless if you like your paint.
I ran a 17x9 +1 265/70r17 fully stock suspension and I rarely had it touch the mud flap. Swapped to rok blokz flaps and never had an issue again. The only thing is I would stick to no more than an 8" wide wheel if I did it again. Airing down i was always concerned it would pop a bead but i never did.

    Welcome TacoBob.

You have a 2022 and already need new tires, huh?

    I'll be searching for new wheels/tires when I get to "roughly" 60K miles...currently 37K.

From what I've read on here with stock suspension, you should be OK to go up from 265/65R17 to 265/70R17 without any problems. (As was said in post #2)

It took me 4 years but I finally got the TRD Lift in April of this year...that opens up/gives me more options to include wheel offset.

Good luck with whatever you decide...post pics when complete.

Thanks all. Mainly just looking for a more aggressive look than anything else. Bought it brand new and have definitely put the miles on it (nearing 60,000)! Between going up to a 265/70/R17 and getting a more rugged style all season tire, I think I'll be getting more of the look I'm hoping for.

More aggressive tire tread will give that look you want...unlike the street tires we got on our Sport. lol

Post pics of what you got/what you gonna get.

PTI (Pardon The Interruption) to OP.

I know you're just being funny with "lol" but I'll dialogue some history with my Tacoma.

It's my first new truck so I was just happy to buy a TRD with a threshold of $40K...I paid MSRP $38,803 with minimal extras in May 2021.

The TRD Sport was targeted as mostly street driving.

It's taken me 4 years to get the TRD Lift and I am taking my time in deciding which way to go with new wheels/tires.

To me, the look my truck presents to others does not affect how I feel about driving my Sport.

I've been on this board/platform almost 4 years this month...yeah, I had my truck 4 months before I found TW.

The realization of all the opinions on threads has been an eye-opener...even though my first board experience was in 2011.

I'm mostly single platform logger as opposed to logging into multiple boards to see the array of replies that trend similar opinions.

So, I mostly avoid certain instances that trigger responses that are not so pleasant.

To get back on thread...OP is looking for an improved/aggressive look with OEM suspension.

He can go up one size as has been said without any rubbing up front.

I'm looking forward to pics of what his new tires will look like on a model the same as mine.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
    I currently run this setup.

I do not rub when driving around town. I only rub when I'm full lock and suspension is compressed, so basically only whenever I off-road.

I removed the OEM mudflaps. I had an alignment shop max out positive caster which pushes the wheel away from the rear of the front fenders. If you want to run mudflaps, I suggest low profile aftermarket mudflaps.

I didn't really bother with the rubbing since it doesn't happen 99% of the time (and if it does, only in very specific scenarios) and if it rubs, it only rubs on plastic.

Well, #1 you're the one who posted a pic of your tires with "lol".... #2 we can have differing opinions... My opinion, those tires are an injustice to the platform.

To the OP, even just getting a modern AT tire like a Falken Wildpeak is going to dramatically help the looks. If you also get new lower offset wheels, that's gonna help your stance. If you're only going up to 265/70, it won't be an issue. My truck (picture) sits on 265/65/17, but with a 0 offset wheel for a more aggressive stance. Then you don't have the sunken wheel look (I think stock Sport is +30).PXL_20250819_002946025.NIGHT.jpg

    Hahaha!

I'll never say you can't have an opinion! lol (And yes, those tires do injustice to truck)

I posted my tire from photo when I picked her up from the dealership...hence the shiny sunken look!

I was waiting for OP to post pic and got a lil impatient...so I posted mine! lol

Even now, I have the ENHANCED sunken look--lol (yes, the offset is +30 for the Sport).

But I'm patiently saving my pennies for a new wheel/tire setup. (-10 offset is max I'll consider and Wildpeaks is the brand I'm leaning towards)

Here's how she sits (and use to sit) at the moment. I got a nice discount and am VERY happy with the setup.
