Hello TW. So I’m in the market for a Tacoma but I’m indecisive whether I should get a manual or auto. I keep reading about the auto transmissions hunting for gears & that’s something I’m not really amused about. I drive a manual crv as my daily, but sometimes an auto would be nice. Just wanted to hear some of your experiences with the auto or manual tacos & if you guys ran into some issues with them. also lead me to some pointers if there’s anything I should look out for when I’m ready to purchase one. Thanks

Btw I was able to get in a 2017 limited taco with 97k miles the other day & when I was changing gears from park to drive the truck jerked. It even jerked a little worse from drive to reverse. Just wanted to see if some of you guys are experiencing the same issue after having the truck for a while

With buying my auto 2019 Tacoma, it's the first time that I don't own a manual. I like the Tacoma a lot, but the transmission is the disappointment and I wish I had test drove a manual. That's what I'd suggest, test drive a manual.

Auto is real nice driving on the sand and snow. You have to be real quick with the clutch.

That is odd how you hit the gas and it has that delay, then hard shifts.

But, seriously. If you can manage it, do an extended test drive with each. The auto at the very least. Quite frankly, this place is the only real place that makes me feel like my AT is any sort of problem.

If you can drive with 3 pedals, then go for the manual, seems to garner less complaints, I dunno.

Wait dealerships allow you to test drive for an extended time? I’m in jersey & I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that.

what do you guys think on the powerband on the 3.5L. I have a 6 speed maxima with a 3.5 so I’m kind of having the same expectations lol

Op, make sure you REALLY don’t mind doing city driving with a manual. If you see yourself on a traffic jam of an hour with a manual at it only bothers you a little, you are good for a manual. If it bothers you a LOT, it might. Or be for you.. I do 90% city driving and it DOEs get old sometimes but right after the jam clears and I go through gears I instantly forget about it.

I’ve driven mostly manuals my whole life and just generally enjoy them more. I got impatient when I was buying my 2016 and went with an auto because they had no manuals in stock. Four years later I bought a 2020 OR with a manual and it made driving fun again. Carpe deim

I will make any decision for you for $5.

Thinking about getting a divorce......I can decide on your behalf.

Thinking of getting MT......I can decide on your behalf.

Not sure if abortion is right for you.....I can decide on your behalf.

PM me for details. I can make this easy.

For a daily, I would say go with auto. If it’s just a fun vehicle, manual.

I’ve driven manual sports cars since I was 16 (38 now). I cannot even tell you how nice it is to just drive a vehicle in traffic and let the vehicle shift for me.

Another aspect of buying a manual is if you’re significant other is going to be riding along often. Take a test drive with them in the manual. It’s definitely something to consider. Some cannot stand being a passenger in a manual, which isn’t a big deal unless it’s the person you spend the majority of your time with.

Hard shifting from park to drive is part of one of the TSBs. My 2017 did the same until I took it to the dealer for the TSB fix.

Hell no! Nissan 3.5l rip like a mofo. Expect dull response and revving to 4000rpm + to get anywhere NEAR your maxima

Sports cars are fun to drive with MT. My last BMW was a DCT that shifted automatically.

It did things I could never do manually like have a 100mph cruise under 3500 RPM and drop 3 gears with a stomp on the accelerator to put you into the power band.

Have had faster cars, have had funner cars, but this was like eating a mushroom in Super Mario.
