Is it just me or have their been more quakes as of late?

I'm not sure if I'm noticing it more because I've been paying more attention to the news, because someone in my family keeps playing that fucking movie 2012 over and over again, or because their frequency has increased.

It just seems that way, because of all the news agencies and how they make it way worse and more than it really is. There are earth quakes (usually small and unnoticeable) everyday in California and all along the coast, and many other places. Has always been that way, the earth's crust is always moving.

I believe the the eartquakes have increased in both strength and numbers...the earthquake in chile was 7th largest quake since 1900. 3 out 10 on this list have happened since 2004...so in the last 6 years we have 3 out 10 largest earthquakes in the past 110 years? http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0763403.html

Yes, all fault zones go through "quiet" periods and then every hundred years or so there is a large quake. The pressure in each plate will build up until then.
