I am in the process of turning the 3-car garage into the summer mancave and in need of some heavy duty shelving. Looking for minimum 90"w x 86"h x 24"d, can be a bit larger. All of the big box stores carry lower end "heavy duty" and not really commercial grade-I get it. So looking for recommendations of the lower end from any who has something they are really happy with. Below are the ones I am considering:

    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-5...n-W-x-90-in-H-x-24-in-D-HBR902490W5/310651467

    https://www.lowes.com/pd/Gladiator-...y-Duty-Steel-Utility-Shelving-Unit/5002093043

    https://www.menards.com/main/storag...-96h-3-shelf-rack/1994322/p-1444422331510.htm

Great deal on the Gladiator and can get an extra 15% off and free shipping:
    https://www.overstock.com/Home-Gard...t=brand:Gladiator+GarageWorks&option=61730194

Open to anything not listed above or better quality. Not a fan of the extreme shelving from Menards. The metal was so thin I could literally squash the vertical legs with my hands.

Wire rack is OK for storage and plastic tote/box storage but other than that I find it a PITA. I have the predecessor to the Gladiator (same stuff by the looks). Nice and HD. WOW those prices now.......

    Does HF carry racking?

I have plenty of racks, I am looking for more cabinets.

Yea prices on everything are ridiculously high. It is the time we live in. I went with the Gladiator from Overstock. Came to $339 before tax with free shipping. Best price I could find for something like this.

I went with ProSlat for hanging tools, shovels, cords and that kind of stuff. I need some shelving for other larger items and want to put the lowest shelf about 35" from the floor so I can store my tractor snow blower and generator on the floor, then stack other things above like spare lumber, trailer ramps, and several other things. I will see how it turns out. Est arrival is 2 weeks out.

I have multiple Gladiator racks and have been very happy. Don’t love the price but I would rather buy once and be done. Definitely a well built rack.

I’ve got a bunch of the Xtreme garage stuff from menards. I bought the pieces individually and have added more over time.

Is welding an option? 1x1 square tube goes together pretty quick and you can arrange it however you want.

Advantages with the Xtreme stuff from Menards. You can add on piece by piece. You can look at the pieces in the store and pick out the ones you want and take them home. No concern about damage due to shipping.

I have some of the Costco ones for my storage unit. Nice stuff. Fair priced.

Moved my college shelves to the garage (teak plywood because why not?)

I would like to add more shelving but the IKEA sides were discontinued decades ago. I do have 4 sides though so I could add 5 more shelves for a triple setup if I could locate or fabricate the ears. I think I only have 6 spare ears so that only gets me one extra shelf.

I do contemplate building something to hang from the beam for long term storage. Just tight on ceiling space too.

    My $0.02
Northern tool (if they have them in stock locally) or the Costco ones.

I bought two in the past year, one from Home Depot and one from Northern Tools for my personal home. Each store, when I bought the shelving units were $189. The Home Depot prices have skyrocketed in the past 2 years. We bought 4 of the husky units in the first quarter of 2020 for work for $159 each!!

I prefer the northern tool ones, because the middle brackets bolt into place instead of a plastic snap holding it. The bolt on the middle bracket prevents the middle from kicking or buckling. If you can find any of this type for under $200 and has 4 shelves... buy it. You can always bolt the middle pieces or add self tapping screws to prevent the middle pieces from kicking out when loaded in the future.

Edit * I missed the at least 90" wide. Going to measure my Northern Tools shelf and see if it is 90"+ like my Husky one.

Well it arrived Monday and I am really happy with both the product and the shipping. Ordered from Overstock as they had the best price and it was in my driveway banded to a pallet when I got home from work.

Packaged very well with cardboard in between layers and shrink wrap and banding holding pieces together.

Overall this rack system is very solid and sturdy. Compared to the Home Depot Husky and Menards Xtreme, I like this much better. The finish is very durable and does not scratch easily. The metal gauge feels heavier than the others. Each shelf has 4 cross support to keep the side rails from spreading. Kudos to Gladiator for making a great product and Overstock to getting it to me without a scratch.

Tip: save the box cardboard to put on top of the wire shelves to prevent stuff from falling through.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I got a bunch of scrap pallet racks years ago.

Food distributor going from small wood to the big wood .

I have modified a bunch over the years to just what people needed .

If you can fabricate scrap racks like this can be had real cheap if you know any demolition contractors and ask real nice

yea, $400 is a bit excessive. i've got 7 of the husky ones, and definitely wouldn't have paid $400 for them 3 years ago! the metals a little thin, but only had 1 kit that was so poorly welded they had to send out replacement side pieces. but otherwise no problems.

i also ripped down some 3/4" plywood to replace a bunch of the wire shelves on a few of them to keep stuff from falling through

I got the Home Depot ones...a few different sizes. Holding up fine with all the weight I've loaded on them. Happy with that purchase.

It's funny this came up, I was looking at this myself. From my cursory research I found that Sam's Club had the best deal (4 shelf industrial for $179.98) but every Sam's Club around me is sold out as well as online. The next best thing I could find was Costco (same dimensions 72x72x24) but $239.99 at Costco, looked and felt the same as the display unit at Sam's.

Good choice on the Gladiator brand, OP. Their products are top notch. I have two of their large shelves, a smaller overhead storage locker, a tall locker and their slim workbench in my garage. It goes nicely with my Motofloor garage floor tiles.
