I know this has been discussed before but there aren't many answers. Can a rear-facing infant car seat fit in the back seat on an 04 access cab? If so, does anyone have a specific brand or model? Baby coming in the winter, want to figure out my options soon.

They can but you have to run with the front seat tilted forward. I had mine in the front and turned the airbag off. Not really a great option in the 1st gens. Wish I could have had a 2nd gen DC when my son was born.

Yes, you have a little flip-up platform on the passenger side that as far as I can tell is just there to support a carseat. Flip the padded seat thing up and then there's a platform on the front of the seat ledge that flips up and the legs fold out of the bottom of it.

I had an Eddie Bauer setup with the stroller and carseat together.

I am worried as hell I'll have to get rid of my Tacoma. This thing is like my fake first born child haha. It doesn't matter if the front seat is all the way forward...I just want to make sure one of the brands will fit and go from there.

My wife works at babies r us. She has had many people with your issue come in. She'll put the display models in your truck for you to let you know what will fit. I'm sure your local store will also.

I used 3 or four different brands in my 99. I put all of them in the front with the air bag off. I would recommend the travel system style with the base. Works well to just to have a carrier and car seat. Don't have to wake him/her up to get in and out of the car. Plus once they are bundled up and warm they stay warm.

My truck had custom buckets that didn't slide, thats why I always went front seat. The eddie bauer's are smaller.

Not sure if the wife would go along with having the baby in the front though. Plus is that as safe as the back? The 1st gens are smaller so in the event of an accident, it may not matter like it would for a bigger car or SUV.

if it fits i would recommend a convirtable car seat. you save money in the long run because they are meant to last you until the baby is like 30-40 pounds. im fortunate enough to have a 07 dcsb and like you i would not trade/sell my truck because im very sentimental and it is my 1st truck and my sons 1st ride home from the hospital was in it. also i know they are more explensive but they are worth it in the long run because you can use it for a LONG TIME http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=18244796 thats the stroller i have and its good for my son until he's 50lb. he's been riding in that since 2 months and is now 9 months and still looks small in it. like i said expensive up front but cheap over time.

i'd also recommend getting a bed cover so no one tries to take your stroller lol. still shocks me what people try and steal now a days. my dad bought me the ARE hard tonneau cover thats lockable which i feel fortunate to have because i tried riding the with the stroller in the truck and it sucks. and if your like me that like quality stuff (im sure everyone does but there are some people that just dont care) this thing is pretty durable because when i dont have my son i drive like a bad outta hell and the strollers getting thrown around back there and has marks to show it but still works perfectly and is 100% functional still

The back middle is the safest spot. The back side is next, then the front. My access cab full size-I put the seat in the middle of the back and had the seat come between the buckets. Don't know if the first gen has that much room or how tall you are. My wife still has my 55lb 5 year old in a full blown car seat because the "booster" is un safe to her. She had no problem with my son in the front of my first gen. But yes, the front seat is not the first choice.

I dont know how the back middle would work since the seat belts buckles are there plus the console goes back there a little bit. After looking online at different seats, it looks like they really vary in size LxWxH. The xtra cab seems to have around 28-30" of room between the passenger seat and the back of the backseat.

They also have trade in events. Bring in any car seat, stroller or high chair and get like 20-25% off the travel system. Even if its a 1970's POS, they'll take it. They do this is so cal. I believe its company wide. And you can get the 20% one purchase coupon and add that on.

Go to the local BRU, not at rush hour-LOL, and just ask to test fit a display. My wife has done it at all 3 stores here she has worked at.

Does it not work for carseats? I realized the holes in it must be for cupholders but a carseat support table seemed like the only reasonable explanation for that thing

exactly what i did. the 1st month my son was born we were rocking a garage sale(no choice due to financial situation) 1990's stroller/travel system. then her step dad gave us one of those safety first ones that look like a race seat and my dad bought us a huge convirtable one that tilts and i traded the stroller in for the stroller i have now. those trade in events help out big time because for that $200+ stroll i paid about 175 which is still steep but better than 200 and still worth every penny

They have different weight limits, so check that out. My son out grew his at 8 weeks, I think you can get the seat up to 40 lbs now. My first one was 25 or 30. The reason for the event is that car seats do expire. Most people don't know that.

MowTaco, what brand did you use for the rear facing seat?
