Thanks for all the info everyone! We will make it work with the middle seat and if baby #2 ever comes, we’ll have to figure something else out.

Center rear middle position is the way to go. Safest location as long as you've strapped everything in properly. If your wife is short, purchase some sliders or sidesteps to resolve that issue.

I wouldn't put my child next to either rear door, but thats just me. I work in insurance (claims dept.) if that helps in any way. The side seat and curtain airbags could do more harm to your child than good. If you must place your child in the back seat, the driver rear seat is the #2 position.

You may also want to look into a life insurance policy for your child. You can possibly add a rider to an existing policy if you already have one. Something to think about that gets overlooked a lot of times.

or, make sure your newborn is automatically enrolled into your existing health insurance.

You'd be surprised how many people sometimes over look the details.

Middle seat is good to go as long as you use seatbelt and not the LATCH system as Tacoma only has LATCH on either side. Only a handful of cars like minivans have 3 LATCH system.

The middle is the safest spot for the little one in case of a t-bone.

Y’all are making me question how I setup the latch on the middle seat in my 2020. Five month old has been riding there since day one.

Edit: I’m using the two inner anchors from the left and right seat positions with my Graco base. Very solid and secure installation. Didn’t want to compromise on not having the baby in the middle.

You should be using the seat belt instead. its not recommended to use the latch anchors on the adjacent seats

Is that stated in the manual? The anchors are close enough IMHO to provide a secure fit, at least on the base that I have.

Yes, it says in the manual on page 58 online version anyways that Tacoma comes with LATCH system for the outer rear seats only. There is no LATCH system in the middle. While it may look ok, the spacing likely isn't right to borrow the outer latches from the outboard seats for the middle seat. It likely would be fine in most collisions, but it may not work properly in a rollover or a serious crash due to angles. Best to use the seatbelt and the tether behind the seat.

With these kinds of purchases I think you should see the product in person, in order to actually try it in your car and see if it fits properly. It is really important that you invest in a good car seat, as you will probably use it for some years, and safety comes first in my opinion. This car model usually fits the majority of car seats, so I would say it’s pretty universal. We got our car accessory from this online shop ooyoo.co.uk, and I am very satisfied with the quality. It fits perfectly in our car, so the measurements online were very reliable. Also, the delivery is free, and if the product turns out to not fit in the car for example, you can of course return it without extra costs. I think you should check out this option.

Same here! I am using a Doona with the base and the click in car seat/stroller system. It has been on the innermost clips of each side--it seemed like this was the intended use of the clips.

Looks like I will need to reconfigure to fastening it down with the seat belt. I would have never thought!

My guess would be no, due to the liability and NHTSA testing and that sort of thing required. When you talk about kids, the lawyers and govt folks ears all perk up real fast.

Sorry to pull this thread from the graveyard but do you have any photos of the RAVA rear facing in the Tacoma? My son has recently transitioned from the NUNA Pipa and will be looking for a more permanent rear facing solution. I have the Diono RXT, but it seems like the RAVA gives the front passenger much more room.

If you got the cash imo the Nuna rava is one of the best car seats. They can use it till they are 5+. The Rava is not super tall, hence why it provides the most amount of space for the seat behind it. Whereas the diono is super tall and almost impossible to fit rear facing. The rava is also probably the easiest car seat to install.

    Edit:
For reference, i'm 6'2" and the driver seat in this pic is all the way back. The passenger seat is probably 2 clicks forward. I can get a better pic after work

Any chance you can provide the front-to-back width of the Rava? I tried one of the Graco seats another member experienced good fit with and my Gen2 must have a smaller cab cause it only fit by sacrificing the front passenger seat.

Middle is safest, which is why our infant is going to sit there! So looking for a seat for my will-be-18-month-old when the new baby arrives, and he'll be sitting behind the passenger seat.
