Hey.... 1st one due within a month. Just about to put a rear facing seat in the taco.
For the middle did you use the lap belt or the UAS straps?
    Cheers

We used the lap belt. Very conveniently, the hospital my wife gave birth at has a car seat installation program, and they installed it using the belt.

As a 13 year Paramedic, yes the middle is the safest. Think about it, “T-Bone” style accident (B post). Someone sitting in the in the middle seat, it’s farther from the doors to crush in on whomever is sitting there.

i had my oldest in the middle for about a year until my second one was born, I added a second rear facing car seat behind the passenger side, just pushed the seat forward a bit. My wife would normally ride back with them, behind me. as they were getting older, I turned my oldest front facing when he was about 2.5yo behind me, and my lil one back facing on the passenger side. now they are 3 and 2, and both are front facing. I keep my lil one behind me since he does not kick as much,,, my oldest is behind the passenger.

Good thinking! I have a 5 year old and a 8 month old. Same with me always had her in the middle until the second child came. Of course with him rear facing you know how much room that leaves for the passenger lol. I tried telling my wife I just needed to upgrade to the new tundra, but that did not go over so well.

Not sure if this is still relevant but I use Diono R3qxt behind the passenger seat for my dclb and my wife still fits in the front passenger seat. It’s certainly a tight fit though

Hi - a bit late to this thread but about to sell my '17 access cab in light of incoming little one. Gonna stick with a 3rd gen and really hate the idea of not having a taco. There is some conflicting info but it seems like two shorter adults (5'7, 5'4) will be fine with a double cab assuming we don't get a huge car seat and/or put it in the middle. Just wanted to see if anyone (OP in particular) had any insights after a couple years of reflection.

I’d test drive one, while I don’t have kids, I do have a double cab and the rear room isn’t much.

You’ll be ok but it’s tight. It’s not the worst thing in the world but you do loose a lot of room, those car seats are bulky.

However now that my kid is forward facing, it’s back to normal.
    Congrats on the little one

So rear facing car seat pretty much will push the front seat ALL the way forward so the middle is the best option but will slightly overhang the center arm rest between the seats.

After a couple years when they can turn around they can still fit well in the middle but their feet will overhang the rear cup holders. Forget it with a second kid, we sold the Tacoma when the second kid came, no way two car seats would work comfortably.
