There’s threads on this topic in the past but they’re several years old, and with new (slimmer) car seats on the market I wanted to see what success people have had using their 1st gen’s with infant or toddler car seats in the back, or front..

I have one toddler and one infant on the way. Our 4Runner is great for the kids but on those atypical days id need them in the 1st gen tacoma. Ultimately the goal would be to fit 2 toddlers in the 1st gen.. Am I SOL here? I’d be bummed to have to sell/trade my 1st gen Xtra cab for a 4 door

I was able to get an infant car seat in the back, which worked for quite a while but toddler now outgrown that car seat.

Has anyone had success with two car seats in their 1st gen Xtra cab?

    thanks in advance

I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old, never tried putting both in the xtra cab Tacoma...when we learned we were pregnant with #2 I went out and got the 4runner as well lol.

I'm going to say no, because our 4 year old's forward facing car seat in the front passenger seat can't have it all the way forward, which is what would be needed to fit the baby car seat behind it. Unless there's some ultra slim seats for both that would maybe make it work. But I'd be curious to know if anyone's been brave enough to try it

One in front and one in back, unless you can rig the tray on rear pass side to have one on rear drivers side. I had rear-facing infant seat in front of a single cab and it was fine. Have had infant or toddler seats in my x-tra cab at various times, front and back (but only one kid so never simultaneously). Just turn the airbag off in the front for rear-facing infant seat.

Interesting...that's new to me as well. Wouldn't work for the baby but that could make it so a 2+ year old toddler could ride behind the driver, leaving ample room for the baby car seat in the front passenger seat.

Thanks for the info, I’ll look into this a bit more and my local state laws.
With the airbag off this might work for a toddler in the passenger seat with the infant car seat on the passenger rear.

or even behind the driver rear with the infant seat in passenger rear.
