STILL trying to get more info here, so here is another more specific question:

Has anyone besides one responder that has already posted, removed or installed satellite receiver Toyota part#86180-0E011 from/to a 2019 Tacoma - any model??? If so, it would be awesome to know the specific radio you had/have. I REALLY appreciate all the replies and info thus far!!!

    In summary here's the protocol:

    • If your current head unit does not have any indication of Sirius/XM on the screen, it is not XM compatible, regardless of what you think or ask, nothing can be done to directly use the unit for XM reception. It is not capable of that function.
    • If your unit does have indications of XM on the screen, you can subscribe and then you have it.
    • If you want XM with the current unit, you will have to get an XM module (a kit with reciever/transmitter, external antenna, adapter, and wiring) that will modulate the signal across an FM band of the unit. At one time XM offered "The Roady" for this purpose. I think they still offer something similar. I found an old one that I connected for a friend just a year or so back and it still works just fine. There are some on Fleabay and Scamazon.
    • If you want XM through a new head unit, that is what is required...a new unit that is capable with functionality of receiving XM. That would also require an adapter (or alternate wiring) for the output of the new unit to your existing wiring for output to speakers as well as an adapter to tie into the steering wheel controls.
    • An XM compatible OEM unit would be the path of less resistance.
    • An aftermarket unit is doable but requires a few extra steps to align it with your other components that currently exist.

I just have to laugh right now! I wanted to rescind the truck purchase contract and the dealer would not let me out of it. So...after info from this forum and this morning on the phone to Toyota parts/radio places, I find out how to make that truck radio work, I go out to the dealer to leave my trade and take possession of my new truck and they have a deposit on the truck and hand over the check for $17,100 I wrote them last Friday - go figure!!! Now I am back to looking for a truck again, this time with A LOT of radio education - won't make the same mistake twice!!!

Thanks to all here that helped with info!!! No need to reply with any more info or help with looking for a truck. I know exactly what I want and will not waiver in getting something really close, like I made the mistake of doing here - getting a SR that had almost everything a SR5 has, but just not close enough!!! Live and learn.... Time to logoff a while from TW....

It took a while for me to figure out what you were referring to here, but I just saw it. Heck, I don't even know how to do that! But that is weird that it got out there!

I just got a new radio but I would be willing to sell my 2019 entune radio, non jbl, with nav and sirius module.

FYI- your need an xm antenna too.

Free advice- Pandora’s free. XM is such a scam from my experience. I shut it off in a car and they turned it back on two day’s later, THREE times. I finally had to cancel my credit card to stop it.

I don't know "what is dis Pandora bidness"? When you say it is free, does that mean it is free to use if you connect your phone to the entune, or is it a free service that I can use like XM? And if that is the case, please provide more details. I cut off XM as soon as my promotion ended after my 90 days of new ownership, and except for when XM turned on their service for EVERYONE last fall for 90 days for free without having to do anything at all, I have not listened to XM at all. I hate that the icon is still on my entune system, but I don't know how to get rid of it. So please elaborate a little on Pandora, if you can! 'Preciate it!

Pandora and Spotify are the two largest streaming services. Both offer free (ad supported) and paid versions. Look up both and see what fits your needs better. I prefer Spotify and pay the subscription.

Pandora will work with the Alexa on your radio though so that's nice. This is all assuming that wasn't a troll post...

I don't know what is a troll post, but my question was real. And I do appreciate the clarification, as although I had heard the name Pandora, I didn't know what it was or how it worked. It seems though, from your answer, that both Pandora and Spotify are services that require one to connect their phone, which is something I don't want to do. I use my phone as a phone, although I do have to admit that since I got a good phone, I have been known to use it for its camera abilities too. But otherwise, I use it as a prepaid phone, and only pay $100 for a year of service or 1500 minutes whichever comes first. That is about as cheap as you can get, but if I were to use it with mobile data, then it would obviously not be as cheap. That is why I was inquiring about how Pandora works. It just seems to me that there should be other services out there like XM, that offer satellite radio that I could simply plug in like XM and use my existing satellite antenna. That is why I was inquiring. Thanks for the help. I appreciate it...

I am on trial right now with my 2021 TRD OR 6MT. Sirius/XM has called twice trying to get my credit card information by offering to set up a user profile for me.(the credit card is required for that). I told them “no” and they will never get
my credit card, as I fully intend to just let the free trial expire. I have more than enough content to listen to in my truck.

Got ya, it's hard to tell sometimes if someone is being sarcastic over the net. If you pay for Spotify (10 a month) they allow you to download the music onto your device (over wifi). So you could download whatever you wanted and then put Spotify into offline mode and bluetooth from your phone without using data. But that is only if you pay the 10 a month for Spotify, I don't think the free account lets you do that.

OK, thanks for the clarification. I am pretty much "old school", in that I don't really want to pay for anything! I actually rarely listen to the radio anyway, but I have to admit, that when I drove my truck across the country back in 2019, having Sirius was pretty good in that I didn't lose signal when I left a local radio station's service area, and there was actually some pretty good programming on Sirius back then, such as it was playing old shows of the Tonight Show, with Johnny Carson. That was actually pretty good to listen to as I was driving down the interstate! I just have wondered that since there are so many AM/Fm stations out there, that there should be more than one Satellite station, other than Sirius and that somebody should be offering it for free! Thanks again for the info. "preciate it!

Pandora is a phone app. Yes you have to plug in your phone w a cable. The basic Pandora is free. If you don’t want commercials it’s $3.99/month. The stations are simple to select and similar to something like XM. If you want clsssic rock, search classic rock And you’ll see the list to select from. If you like any band, just put it that bands name like “Pink Floyd” and you’ll get Pink Floyd and similar genre bands. But as I said it requires the phone connected.
