    Hi Folks

I'm in San Jose and would like to start budgeting for some work.

Would anyone have any ideas as to the cost for replacing the hoses, belts, and idler for a 2008 DBl Cab v6 prerunner?

I've done work in the past like on suspension, but am intimidated with the belt and adjusting the tension.

    Thank you in advance.

    Than

You should just call your mechanic and ask. It’s different for everyone based on where they live and who they take it too

Search and you'll find plenty of how to instructions in here. I looked at some, it doesn't seem all that difficult. I thought I'd need to do some pulleys but it was just the belt. If you're able to do suspension work, belt & pulleys shouldn't give you problems. I personally don't like to do suspension work, heard horror stories about flying springs.

Thank you for your vote of confidence.

I may try the tasks, just concerned because the last time I did replace some belts, during the test drive I learned the belt was too tight.. ended up having to be towed because the tension caused the belt to be too tight.

    Still thinking about it.
I believe that your truck has only one belt and you don’t even have to tighten it so you can’t make that mistake again.

Yeah, the tensioner pulley should take care of all that.

another vote to DIY. The tensioning the serpentine belt is super easy on the 4.0, it is automatic. Put socket on the tensioner bolt, turn to remove tension, there's a hole you can stick a screwdriver or punch in to hold it in the loose position. Install new belt, turn socket, pull out the punch and let it re-tension the belt.

Might as well check the condition or just plan to replace the idlers while in there, they aren't too expensive to replace and they usually start to make noise after 100K miles. One word of caution, replacing the entire tensioner itself is a more involved project. I bought it to replace while in there and it's a PITA. AC compressor has to be pulled partially out of the way, and the bolts are a bitch to get too. I ended up not swapping it out. Believe I just swapped the idler on it and left the tensioner. (pretty sure this tensioner idler is reverse thread too)

I added a link to a thread I referenced when I did mine. Like some of the guys in there, I also recommend OEM belt and pulleys.

Luckily there's no adjusting. It has a tensioner, twist as if loosening the pulley bolt, I think. There's supposed to be a place to stick a pin or something to keep it in place.

I'd cross-post this here to get an answer more specific to San Jose if you don't want to DIY: https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/northern-california.42/
