just to comment on this particular issue of valuable posts being lost, when a member asks to be removed I always check their threads to see if anything needs to be reassigned to the ghost "misc" account because of some important posts that people would find helpful. sometimes I miss some in my checks though.

We actually rarely delete stuff...but thats usually because that user has gone above and beyond being an asshole..or is overly butthurt and cries and asks to be deleted.

We have an infraction system...we use it on a regular basis...but its usually far easier to handle things with a very blunt PM warning that you can be banned for continuing whatever it is you are doing that we have asked you to stop doing.

And op, getting other members riled up on purpose on a forbidden topic is cause for dismissal based on the part of the code of conduct about going against the spirit of the site.

We also dont just perma ban someone without at least a warning in most cases...sometimew the offense doesn't warrant a warning and thats that.

skygear, You are too easy. We have an infraction system on my site as well. If the below would happen, this is how we handle it.

All of the actions we take are discussed upon the moderation team and each person is given the chance to appeal to me via email.

With the accumulation of points eventually you will be banned. Thats how it works. Most of the time, you do not know how many points you have or that each infraction is worth. That is, unless M&A disclose it to you.

With the infraction system, it is a great way for a "permanant file" on you when they want to look and consider you for other things on the board. Like being a mod or other things. They can click on the infraction tab in your profile and see what kind of mischeif you have been up to or gauge from that what kind of poster you are.

In the site code, there is options for all that you mentioned. Including the IP bans, Normally I candle that through CPANEL but whetever.

    Those were just examples.

On my site YOU cannot see what other's infractions are but the user can see his own. The expiration dates are logged, who issued it, the offending post is linked and the accumulation of points. We also have a notation section where we do keep notes.

Nothing like a valuable piece of information disappearing.. Really can mess up a persons day. I am all about the preservation of content. Not my issue if you are not that Savy.
I appreciate you addressing this though. Thank you.

FYI no information ever goes "missing" or "disappears". If you are savvy on IB operations then you should know this.

That being said, I've said enough on here. I think you know what's up and are stirring the pot.

It is the same process they are using now, just with a better multiple choice.
